gastrointestinal and colon involvement Explanation: I would probably translate the entire sentence as follows: I was diagnosed with rectal cancer with gastrointestinal and colon involvement in the initial stages. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 4 hrs (2010-12-05 15:07:45 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- This is in response to Merry's entry above: You are right, the GI tract covers the entire passage from mouth to anus. The German sentence is not very accurate either since rectal cancer already involves the colon, or large intestine. Also, how can the cancer be in the initial stage if it already involves the GI tract including both the small and large intestine? I now interpret the German sentence to mean that the rectal cancer ( the rectum is located in the last few inches of the colon), involves a larger part of the colon, i.e. "mit Beteiligung des Dickdarmbereiches im Magen-Darm-Trakt". Does this sound plausible at all? The English translation would therefore be: "with involvement of the colon (large bowel) as part of the gastrointestinal tract" |
