Bei Schlafapnö wird der Patient oft durch den Arzt über den Tisch gezogen, weil eine wichtige Überlegung nicht zur Sprache kommt.
Es ist nämlich so, dass Atemaussetzer im Schlaf durch übermäßigen Verlust an Kohlendioxid (Hypokapnie) und durch eine schleichende (also nicht akute) Hyperventilation verursacht werden können.
Bei diesem Sachverhalt müssen Nachdenken und Verinnerlichen schnell zum Schluß führen, dass eine Wiederherstellung der gesunden Nasenatmung einen großen Stellenwert hat. Weiterhin kann es allgemein wenig Sinn haben, das natürliche ***Regelwerk*** der Atmung mit CPAP zu überfahren.

I'd rather use "pattern" here (natural breathing pattern). "Rules" sounds as if a set of written rules were established, which is obviously not the case here.
