Thanks to everybody for their thoughts on this one - I think this is one of those occasions where two solution are possible. To reflect Austrian medical reports' tendency for Latin, I decided to go with the Latin solution in the end.

Asker: Thanks, Gudrun, that must be it - although the next sentence talks about "ambulante Kontrollen", it doesn't mention the removal of the sutures, but I suppose that falls under "ambulante Kontrollen".

neutral  Gudrun Maydorn (X): Hallo uyuni, ich bin sehr dafür, im Englischen das Medizinerlatein zu vermeiden, aber nach 17 Jahren als Angestellte in einer britischen medizinischen Einrichtung war in situ für mich einfach gebräuchlicher.
