Better still: straight slide tray to distinguish it from the carousel variety
Diafocus 66T 6x6cm (2.25-inch) square slide projector has remote control for manual ... low cost slide projectors which take straight slide tray magazines. ...

It was a close one between "slide tray" and "slide carriage", but "slide tray" did ultimately jog my memory - I recall that particular phrase from when I was a young 'un and was shown slideshows at school. So that's the one I've gone with here. Thanks!

Erklärung:
This is the mechanism from a slide projector which advances the slides held in a magazine (Magazin).
Think of the literal meaning of "schlitten" - the slides are held in the vertical plane in the magazine and slid sideways into the projector by the carriage.
The Kästen refers to a box which can contain magazines of slides (if you aren't familiar with projectors the magazine just holds slides upright so they can be moved into the projector by the carriage) - it's an inefficient way of storing slides long term however as it takes up huge amounts of space.
