Traci Andrighetti (asker): 12:40am Jun 11, 2005: I should have added more context here. The sentence is: "Chiedo la collaborazione di questo spett. Comune."
Elena Ghetti: 6:44am Jun 11, 2005: short for "spettabile", used in letters before the person/company who is addressed, leave untranslated -

Att. the Municipality
Erklärung:
To the attention of the Municipality.

spettabile = Dal lat. spectabi°le(m), deriv. di specta¯re 'guardare’ agg. rispettabile, ragguardevole (usato solo negli indirizzi e all'inizio di lettere commerciali): Spettabile Ditta.

Comune = (autorità municipali) municipality, town/city council: il Comune ha deciso di far costruire una nuova scuola, the town/city council decided to have a new school built.

spettabile ?

Erklärung:
if it is an address, this might work. Spett. X is a manner of addressing someone, like here .e.g. "dear Community" but really rather
"to the attention of the Community"

Erklärung:
...of the esteemed local authority.
I agree with Elena and Emanuela that it is better to leave it out but, if you want to be very formal, this is an option.
In the UK at least we talk of "local authorities" (or city councils) rather than municipalities.
