Every now and again there are small legal terms. This is one of them. I assume it is the author, who in this case I take to be the judge or someone similar. How should this be translated? |

I would say "the writer" which is general enough. To me, "the undesigned" implies that the auhor acually puts his name at the end of the paper, which may not be the case.

If you want to maintain the form in the third person, I'd use "the undersigned".
This is confirmed by the Codeluppi Italian/English Dizionario di Economia, Banca e Borsa.
If you need the first-person form, I would simply use "I"!
