Übersetzungen Italienisch > Englisch [PRO] Bus/Financial - Einzelhandel / wholesalers | | Italienisch Begriff oder Satz: Grande Distribuzione Organizzata/Grande Distribuzione | I've asked this question before (when I didn't know the difference between the two words).
Now it appears that they are two very opposite concepts, with GDO being a federation of small local supermarkets that come together and purchase goods from wholesalers at discounted prices on the basis of having many different outlets.
GD on the other hand is a description of an organisation which already has a large number of huge outlets (such as Auchan) and can thus reduce all of the costs per unit, including the purchase price from their own suppliers
Assuming that is correct, is there a specific term in English? |

Ex. GD= large-scale distribution, DO= mass distribution. Hope it helps! Anthony Green: 10:07am Nov 12, 2007: UK sites? - The problem I am having is that if I look for these two terms "large-scale retail distributors" and "organized retail distribution centres" on UK sites they are practically absent. What I wanted to find was a term which would mean something to a Uk-based shareholder of an Italian company... Any ideas? halifax: 10:34am Nov 12, 2007: Supermarkets (DO) vs. retail groups (GD) oppure supermarket chains vs. retail groups. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrefour: It is the second largest retail group in the world. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auchan: Auchan is an international retail group halifax: 10:37am Nov 12, 2007: Large-scale retailers oppure retailing sono molti più presente di large-scale retail distributors nei siti .uk; anche organised retailing/retailers dà dei risultati in .uk con Google. halifax: 10:45am Nov 12, 2007: supermarket distribution (che direi essere la DO) dà più di 800 risultati .uk, tra cui il sito della BBC halifax: 11:12am Nov 12, 2007: ho appurato che organizzata significa associata

| | retail purchasing consortiums/groups / mass retailing | Erklärung: La grande distribuzione is easy. Tesco and Walmart are mass retailers. Reading the wiki page other term is a much more specific concept, probably pretty specific to Italy. I don't believe anything similar exists on any scale in the UK or US, except perhaps for co-operatives.

That last reference was a slight error.
