Traditionally the queen or whoever it is breaks a bottle of champagne against the bows of the vessel as it glides down the slipway and announces: 'I name this ship ... May God bless her and all who sail in her'.
Everyone cheers and waves flags... It's a real cliché and the 'dåp' is not so far off the mark.
But I think you are right: naming ceremony rather than christening, despite the allusion to God. |
