The problem is that you haven't told us anything about 'him' or about what aspect of his ?character?/?work?/behaviour is being described. So this suggestion might be hopelessly out of keeping with what the text is really saying. Can you give some details? Who or what is 'he'? What kind of text is it? What's being discussed?

I've had a look at the artist's website. I think that, despite the fact that 'perversity' often has negative connotations, it might well work in the context you give. Firstly because I think it would be fair to say that the artist is most definitley provoking and challenging the so-called 'accepted norms' and secondly because hopefully, if visitors to his site are interested enough in his work to read the text, they will understand 'perversity/perverse' in the sense of:
" per·verse(pr-vûrs, pûrvûrs)
adj.

a. Marked by a disposition to oppose and contradict."

I guess if I were translating the text I'd go for something along the lines of:
'His legendary perversity is like tabasco on a juicy steak ... a jolt and then a taste to be relished'.
