second fiddle/off the pace Explanation: There are plenty of ways to solve this, depending on the register you are looking for, how daring you want to be, etc. My random suggestions (don't forget that English is sometimes much more expressive than Slovak, which - no disrespect - can sound rather dry in translation): Your first example: “but in all other respects they play second fiddle” Second example: “otherwise they’re 20-30 MB/s off the pace” (follows up on the “drzat krok” earlier in the sentence) -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 4 hrs (2015-03-02 08:46:48 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- edit: I see you've used "pace" for "drzat krok". You could change that to "keep up with", "keep step", "stand shoulder to shoulder", "hold their own", etc. |

lacking behind (in the given regard) Explanation: ... počas čítania stredne veľkých dátových blokov, inak na neho strácajú. ...otherwise they are lacking behind in (all) other regards. ... inak na neho strácajú 20 až 30 MB/s. ...otherwise they are lacking behind by 20 - 30 MB/s. Reference: While there are smartphones with a pixel density greater than 500 pixels per inch and tablets with over 300 pixels per inch desktop computers are lacking behind in this regard. http://uk.hardware.info/reviews/5779/2/eight-ultra-hd-4k-mon... Another option is to go with: trailing behind I believe that the present progressive tense (are lacking behind) should be used as opposed to the present simple tense (lack behind). |

lag behind Explanation: celá formulácia by potom bola "otherwise they lag behind (them)". -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 5 days (2015-03-07 05:59:26 GMT) Post-grading -------------------------------------------------- Díky Karle. Podľa mňa aj "fall short of" bude fungovať |
