En la teoría clásica de la formación de los denominados colores pigmento (síntesis sustractiva) se parte de los llamados colores primarios (rojo, amarillo y azul) para obtener los colores secundarios (verde, naranja y violeta).
En la teoría de color para pigmentología se parte de cuatro colores generadores (negro, rojo, amarillo y blanco) para obtener los colores bigenerados (amarillo blanquecino, rosa, naranja, gris, violeta berenjena y verde oliva) o los trigenerados (amarillo anaranjado, violeta lila, caqui ceniza, castaño cálido).
I totally get it, but am not sure what to call these in English, so any beauty/ cosmetic surgery/ hairdresser/ pigmentology/ chemistry whizzes out there please, any suggestions would be welcome. I'm not getting enough convincing hits to be sure...

This is not literal, it is contrived based on your context. IMHO, I think it is necessary to convey the basics of color layering in your text (the additive effects of color) and these are really stemmed from physical laws of science (i.e. the classic color theory), whether or not the old system is being called new : ). "Additive" refers generally to the fact that, in micropigmentation, colors are added depending on one's existing skin tone and these additions are "customized" for each individual.

Fragesteller: This is not calling the old system new as you put it- this system starts from a completely different base of colours. I think I really need to convey the idea of the three different classes of colours as in the context above. It is essential to the text, which is why I wondered if anyone could help me translate this idea of 'generador', bigenerado' etc. Any ideas would be welcome, as I'm a bit stuck. It's about the stages in mixing the colours. 'additive' will not work here I'm afraid.
