Source text - English Rayford Steele’s mind was on a woman he had never touched. With his fully loaded 747 on autopilot above the Atlantic en route to a 6 A.M. landing at Heathrow, Rayford had pushed from his mind thoughts of his family.
Over spring break he would spend time with his wife and twelve-year-old son. Their daughter would be home from college, too. But for now, with his first officer dozing, Rayford imagined Hattie Durham’s smile and looked forward to their next meeting.
Hattie was Rayford’s senior flight attendant. He hadn’t seen her in more than an hour.
Raygord used to look forward to getting home to his wife. Irene was attractive and vivacious enough, even at forty. But lately he had found himself repelled by her obsession with religion. It was all she could talk about.
Hattie was Rayfords Senior Flug Stewardess.

Hattie was Rayford se senior lugwaardin.

Hi!
So far I have only translated for family members and friends, mainly letters and medical reports, but I hope to change that soon.
Highly motivated and keen to spread my wings into the fascinating field of translations, I am eager to receive any work from German to English and Afrikaans, English to German and Afrikaans, and Afrikaans to English and German. I also have a passive knowledge of French and Zulu, demonstrating my love for languages in general. Due to my lack of experience, my rate is only R0.12 per word in any combination of my three languages.
Flexibility and the motivation to keep learning, combined with my love for people (children in particular) have always driven me to do my very best in all situations. I also have a great love for reading, writing and music. At the end of 1998, I was led to study education as I was deeply unhappy with the government system and kept raising issues regarding their handling of discipline etc with them. What started off as gathering more information to help me help my children, ended up five years later with a BEd degree. I continued looking for different school systems, and found ACE, so I signed up for a training course with them for the beginning of December 2003 and started working with the ACE system in 2004.
Working at Sasol Fertilizers, I was thrown into the deep end with computers, and I am very grateful for that. It was years before every household had a computer, and I learned to work in DOS (which my children have no idea about) and from there I learned – mostly the hard way! – and can now confidently say I am more than computer literate. For example, I have computerized the reports for Barachel, I can help with spreadsheets and documents, and know about printer issues as well as being comfortable with the internet and the time saving uses thereof.
My home language is German, but having grown up in South Africa, I’m also very competent in English and Afrikaans, having studied through Unisa.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Karin
