The industry standard Mar 10, 2017

Same as the majority. My best client started using OpenOffice and similar freeware a couple of years ago, but I told them that my translation software only works with MS Office, so if they wanted to keep working with me they would need to continue to send me the source texts in standard Office-compatible format. They had absolutely no problem with that whatsoever. Occasionally we get minor blips, but nothing we can't work around.

I'd be only too happy to try out some freeware, as long as it was as easy to use as the industry standard and the CAT tools I use would work with it. But it isn't, and they don't.

MS Office - it's what the clients use Mar 10, 2017

I have over 60 clients and no one has ever suggested using anything else. I think it's more about what they use than what the translation industry prefers.

MS Office Mar 10, 2017

I started out with WordPerfect but then all my clients moved to MS Office and I followed them…

MS office for MAC Mar 10, 2017

That's what I use.
Just one client uses OpenOffice, but I transfer everything in MS Office in order to translate the file in Wordfast

A mix Mar 10, 2017

LibreOffice on my main OS, and Microsoft Office on the virtual machine where I run all my translation software.

Libre Office Mar 10, 2017

After my entire system crashed, I had to use Libre Office. Even though Libre Office does offer the options available in Ms 2007, it's not really what I need or want. But it's a good interim solution. Presently I am in the decision process of choosing the perfect new PC for my needs. Once I have it set up, I will re-install MS Office, probably 365, either bought or leased.

To tell you the truth, I have never heard of most of the others, and the ones I have, I know nothign about.
I'd be very glad to get rid of Microsoft in my life, starting with Windows, as I don't agree with their attitude towards the client, and the way they force their things into us, covered by their giant monopoly. But, unfortunately, everytime I tried it, I felt excluded from the rest of the world.
So, for now, we're still "forced" to swallow them. Hopefully, not for long.
