On cleaning up a ppt file, I receive this message:
2147418113: Unexpected error using plug-in filter.

I can't use plus-ins; I always get a message saying plug-ins can't be used in Demo Mode, which of course is not what I paid for, but I've never had a satisfactory answer from SDL Trados about that. But I digress.

Now, I need to clean up this ppt file, which I translated in Tag Editor (I have SDL Trados 2007 + Office XP + Windows XP). Could anyone tell me how to

A possibility Dec 19, 2007

I'm not sure if this is the case, but when someone sends you the .ttx file from a PPT already prepared to translate, sometimes it cannot be cleaned. If that is the case, create your own .ttx from the original PPT and run the memory again. Then you can clean it. Remember that both the original PPT and the created .ttx MUST be in the same folder.

Hey Nancy,

This problem (and solution!) popped up on Proz before:
http://www.proz.com/post/617192#617192

First of all, Trados doesn't deal with external plug-ins, it's just a confusing reference to the bundled plug-ins that handle Excel, PowerPoint, InDesign and whatnot (all shown under the Tag Filter Settings from the Start Menu in Windows.

1. It can be caused by a line break tag followed by a space character.
2. This seems to have been fixed in the latest Service Pack from SDL. Did you install it?
3. Apart from this, I agree with Elias and Vito. If you took over this TTX from another user, anything could have happened. You can either use the Tag Verifier to check every line painstakingly. Or chose the easy way out, start from fresh and just run the original against your TM!

/Jan

No joy, and now no Trados at all Dec 19, 2007

Hi all,
Thanks to all those who tried to help, both on and offline.

Edit:
1. The client sent me a ppt, I'm the one who botched it all on my own...
2. I've downloaded the service pack 1, and now the build 826, many, many times but always end up with a corrupt file that I cannot install, and can find no info on this.
3. I'm still stuck with an uncleaned ppt. Cleaning up gives the error quoted in my opening post; SAve As Target gives me a run-time error.

4. I wish I could call SDL Trados and find out why the downloaded file is corrupt.

This is exactly what it was, thank you so much Jan for this link, ban you believe I've spent now 9 hours of my day with this! mainly because SP1 and build 826 are both corrupt by the time they arrive in my machine, which took hours...

But I manually rmeoved the white spaces afterr BR tags, and there were a few (9,500 word ppt doc!) but now I have a cleaned, target file to review and send my client...

Thank You Prozians!

Cool, I'm happy to hear that you solved it.
BTW, downloading those huge installers can be a drag. Make sure you run a downloader program that can resume broken files if your connection is dropped.
Try Orbit Downloader or FlashGot, mainly in conjunction with Firefox!

Best regards from freezing Sweden,

Jan

And the Trados saga continues... Jan 2, 2008

Thanks, Jan, I downloaded one of those, DownloadThemAll, to be precise, from the Firefox website.

So now I can dowload the sp1 in about 50 minutes, but it's still unopenable:

Unfortunately, I only speak English and French, and MT hasn't caught up to the above language yet...

If only I could drive to the Trados office, I'd ask them to help me install this *&^%%$ service pack. It would be faster than all these downloads, ad nauseam...

Thanks to all for commiserating

Nancy

Can also be caused by a missing tag Jun 10, 2008

In my case a "br" line break tag was missing in one segment.
Cleanup worked fine when I fixed that

same problem for me, solution doesn't work. Aug 26, 2009

I have the same problem on a ppt file today.
I have removed ALL white spaces around all the red vertical lines (are these the BR tegs?) and it still doesn't work.
At the moment it seems I have to redo the whole file tonight, typing it straight into the ppt file.(((
