KudoZ Asking

A person in need of translation assistance posts a term or phrase, providing context and the desired target language. You can not edit a question, but you can add notes. A form appears in the question page. (If you lose track of a question, check the email confirmation for the link.)

Note: All askers may want to search the KudoZ glossaries first for their term before submitting a live KudoZ question.

Non-Pro or Pro

Each KudoZ question is classified in one of two categories: PRO and Non-PRO (formerly called "easy").

PRO questions are those that are asked by OR that are suitable for professional translators.

Non-PRO (formally called "easy") questions are those that are asked by people who are not professional translators, and that can be answered by any bilingual person without the aid of a dictionary.

Please click on the following Howto link to learn more about classifying your KudoZ question: http://proz.com/howto/326

KudoZ Categories

KudoZ questions can be categorized using a field list with about 100 entries. The list, which was created statistically from subject areas entered in free text by ProZ.com users, is somewhat fuzzy on purpose. For example, because one member might think "auto" while another thinks "cars", both category names are made available in the list.

Note that although "twin" categories such as these appear separately in the list of fields, they get entered into the database in the same way. So it does not matter which you select--just pick the first category that fits your term.

A tip: in most browsers, once you are in the select list, you can simply hit the letter of the category you have in mind ("c" for "cars") until you get the category you want.

FYI KudoZ Rules

2.1 - Use KudoZ to ask for a translation only after you have consulted the KudoZ archives (KudoZ > KudoZ Search from the main menu), dictionaries, search engines and any other commonly available resources that might be helpful. If you find translations elsewhere and still wish to post a KudoZ question, include the information you have found and explain what further information you seek.

2.4 - In general, askers should refrain from posting a large number of questions in a short period of time. Bear in mind that a question may be sent to several thousand people, and use your judgment.
