Report from  Ilana Cowan
Well, we have just had our PowWow on Skype. Maybe it was a first?
Anyway, we did have some technical problems as when I called the conference, a few people started dropping out for no apparent reason. Eventually we went on to a chat group.
That was interesting but you had to read things really fast as the conversation moved pretty quickly in order to follow the threads.
We had quite a few people online:
Fabio Descalzi, Noro Fiaferana Zignani, Vanda Nissen, Claudia Ait-Touati, Angioletta Garbarino, Textlick [Chris Irwin], Milena C Kripeska, Ritu Bhanot, Phon Le and Trinh Do. Hope I didn't forget anybody.
We talked for an hour on CAT tools, powwows and pricing. It was interesting hearing about pricing for translations in poorer countries such as Russia, India or Slavic countries.
All in all I feel it was a positive experience for all of us and I suppose we can say we made friends with one another, across the world, across different countries, languages an cultures.
A few moments after the Powwow, I had a Spanish query and I quickly sent a skype message to Fabio who promptly answered me. Isn't that great?
Thank you all for attending,
Ilana Cowan

Dec 10 '07  Claudia Ait-Touati: PS
Ilana, do you mind if I report about this Powwow to the National Council of AUSIT? It's absolutely worthwhile to mention.
Dec 10 '07  Claudia Ait-Touati: Thanks a million!
It was just marvellous! I found the technical problems minor in comparison with my very first webex meeting, so it was a great success. It was so lovely to meet you all in cyberspace. Thanks Ilana for organising this. So much good comes from Queensland! You rock!!
Dec 10 '07  Milena Chkripeska: Congratulations!
Ilana, very well done! Despite the technical problems, everything was just perfect. Bravo for your inventiveness!
Dec 10 '07  Vanda Nissen: thank you!
Thank you, Ilana, thank you, everybody!
Dec 10 '07  Textklick: Thanks Ilana
That was interesting. I wonder whether Skype always misbehaves with sound on conference calls? Remember to confirm to Proz who attended (I think there is a checkbox for organisers ( then we get Browniz points and you get even more!

Take care
Chris ;-)

Thank you Chris.
Dec 10 '07  Ilana Cowan: Claudia
Hey, Claudia, Qld does not have daylight saving. Right now it is 6.41 pm and I'll start the conference in 19 minutes. Sydney is an hiur ahead of Qld. Don.t know about Adelaide, sorry. But just be here soon!
Dec 10 '07  Milena Chkripeska: It's powwow time!
That's right! I had an impression that everybody was confused, that is why I send the link. Be "there" in 1 hour...
Dec 10 '07  Vanda Nissen: to Milena
I think, in one hour - for you and for me, at 10 a.m.
Dec 10 '07  Milena Chkripeska: Timezones
Hello! Can anyone tell me when does the powwow begin? I feel so puzzled :-) For those who "come from" different timezones than Ilana: http://www.timezoneconverter.com
Try this link. Hope it would be useful... CU
Dec 10 '07  Claudia Ait-Touati: Sorry to be a dimwit; time clarification
Hi all,

In the first message it says that the powwow is held at 7 pm (19.00) GMT +10 and later in the messages, there is talk about 9.00 GMT? And 20.00 (8 pm); is this due to the daylight savings? What is the correct time (sorry if I missed it in the messages)? I live in Adelaide, so we're not that far apart ;-) Heard you had some bad weather over there? Nice hailstones , wow!
Dec 10 '07  Angie Garbarino: User id angie 1335
In case it will work :(
Dec 10 '07  Angie Garbarino: Skype doesn't want to connect
I'm trying but nothing urghh!
Dec 10 '07  Ilana Cowan: correct time and possibility of storms tonight
Vanda, Sydney has daylight saving, Queensland has not. So 19.00 hrs in Qld would be 20.00 hrs in Sydney.
Anyway, I hope it will all go well. The sky here is pretty gray and they are forecasting big storms tonight. If there is a lot of lightening around I won't be able to go on skype. Let us see what happens. I've added all your names anyway.
Dec 10 '07  Vanda Nissen: To Textclick
9. 00 GMT is 19.00 in Sydney.
Regards,
Vanda
