Hi everyone,

I've been trying to install Across 5.3 Personal Edition (demo) but never succeeded.

At the end of installing SQL Server 2008 R2, an error message appears:
"SQL Server Express database server has not been installed."

I successfully installed SQL Server 2008 R2 manually, but the error message above still appears while installing Across.

OS is Windows 7 64bit Service Pack 1, and anti-virus software disabled.

Option not to install MS SQL? Aug 1, 2012

Isn't there an option to "use existing MS SQL Server" during installation?

such option doesn't appear Aug 1, 2012

I think such option should appear, but only "Install SQL server.." option is displayed.

It seems that the installer does not recognize the existing SQL.
It doesn't recognize Office applications (Word, Excel, etc) although Office 2010 is installed on my PC.

Have you installed Net.Framework? (3.5 or higher).

Office x64? Aug 2, 2012

It doesn't recognize Office applications (Word, Excel, etc) although Office 2010 is installed on my PC.

Across doesn't work with Office x64 so far.

Concerning SQL server I would suggest to contact Across Support.

Thanks AAV for your comments.

I never knew Across doesn't work with Office x64 so far.
I don't want to compromise my system, so I decide to let it go for the time being.

It seems that I'm not the only one who suffer from nightmares of Across and SQL server problems. Hope they fix the issue ASAP.

You can help Across by reporting :-) Aug 2, 2012

As far as I know, each problem which is reported, is considered by Across support. But when problem is not reported, they might think everything is ok So you can help them to improve just with reporting about problem you encountered.

Report to Across Aug 3, 2012

Thanks AVV.

My client reported the issue, and Across replied "If the MS SQL Server installation aborts as described, it can be very difficult to support because it is a Microsoft product."
They give us the instruction to uninstall all SQL Server components and install it manually, which I've already done but the problem was not solved.

So, this issue seems out of our control.

Another problem with the installation of Across 5.3 Aug 29, 2012

Hello everyone,

I have just tried to install Across on my new computer. When starting the setup, an error occurs informing me that I need Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint 2000 or higher - which I have installed, but Across somehow doesn't appear to find them. As the window gives me the option to install Across anyway I did so. As the window gives me the option to install Across anyway I did so. After the installation (no other problems occurred) I could open Across, I could import the TMX I created in my old computer, I could initiate the import process for the files I wanted to translate BUT they weren't imported successfully. Actually, they weren't imported at all. The window just disappeared and left my list with tasks empty.

I have read in this thread that there might be problems with Windows x64 (which my new computer has; my old one had x32); so, do you think this might be the reason, or could there be something else?

You won't be able to add doc, ppt and xls documents to Across if you don't have Office x32 installed.
Nevertheless, you can work with other types of documents, e.g., html and xml normally. You can try to do so, to check, if problem is caused by "x64".
