Does it work by minute? If so, how many cents do you normally charge? From English to Romanian.

Proofreading is quality-dependent
Aug 4, 2020
I don't see that it's possible to charge for proofreading of anything (text, audio, video...) by any unit other than your own time. Unless you're willing to spend the time to check out various random chunks throughout the file and then calculate how much you need to charge per word/minute/subtitle... for that particular file.

The point is that the time needed (or the work involved) depends not on your own skills but on the skill of the original supplier. By charging the same per-word etc. rate for unseen files, you're going to both penalise yourself for someone else's poor work and hide from the client the fact that it's poor work. ▲ Collapse

Can one proofread dubbing, though?
Aug 5, 2020
Dubbing is a spoken rendition of written material. So, I wouldn't know how that could be proofread. Can you please clarify what the actual assignment would consist in?

Yeah the offer was $.75 per minute for 60 minutes film. You are right it does depend on the other’s skills, the translator, because the time involved was like four hours to five hours and the total pay was $45. I guess there’s not a lot of money in translating things.

It would involve comparing the English translation to the Romanian translation and the changes that were made to the spoken word to see if it all matches the original translation of English.

I was asked to "proofread" voice-overed documentaries.
Aug 13, 2020
to check if what the voiceover artist says in the film march the script provided to her or the subtitles.
Some translation agencies do use the verb "proofread" to describe this kind of jobs, no matter you like it or not.
