Dear Fellows,
please forgive me if I am out of your ways, it's my first time here.
I have just tried to contact Mr. Paul Kim ("share my profile: http://www.proz.com/profile/1026367") about the time zone of the deadline he established. Unfortunately, every time I emailed or phoned him, it got rejected. He said, no no translator, no English...

Would you go on with the job or leave it? Has he the right to sue me?

Needless to say, I have lots of work ahead and hope for an 8-hour time difference to take to my advantage.

Thank you for any suggestions,

Greetings to you!

Kamila

Hi Kamila Nov 8, 2019

Sorry, but your post is quite unclear.

How did you contact with this outsourcer previously?
Did you get the job through ProZ.com? Do you have a PO for the job?
This is an agency, so there are other contacts.

Also, please note, that if your outsourcer is in Korea and you are in Poland, it is them who have the time advantage.

Natalia

If no time zone is specified, one can generally take one of two approaches:
1. Assume the client meant his own time zone (since he deals with translators from various time zones), or
2. Assume the earliest, which in your case would also be the client's time zone, since it's already 6 AM tomorrow in Korea

Either way, it would seem safest for you to just keep on working for the next three to four hours until people in Korean start their day at the office.

Unfortunately, every time I emailed or phoned him, it got rejected. He said, no no translator, no English...

Could it be that the phone is being answered by someone who is not a translator and doesn't speak English? If you called recently, it would have been the middle of the night for them.

Would you go on with the job or leave it?

If you're certain that this is not a scam, I suggest you go ahead with it.

Has he the right to sue me?

Over his own miscommunication? No.

No way to communicate? Nov 8, 2019

I would also worry about how you're going to deliver the translation and the invoice and get confirmation of delivery and how s/he is going to pay you.

First sort the communications issues... then deliver to an agreed deadline.

Thank you, Natalia! Thank you Samuel Murray! Nov 8, 2019

Good evening to you!
I have never heard of him before, he emailed me a few days ago with an offer.
He is advertising himself as an agency, but it is a single proprietor offering English-Korean translations.
They did not answer the office phone (Seul).
To Samuel: how can I send the files in Word if he blocked my email? He won't pay me if I paste everything in proz e-mails...will he? For there are no attachments in these contact forms...

Have a goodnight!

Presumably you responded to the offer saying something like "Yes, I can do this translation", and then... did he write back to confirm that he wants you to go ahead with the translation job? Or was the last communication from him just the offer?

How can I send the files in Word if he blocked my email? He won't pay me if I paste everything in Proz e-mails...will he?

No, I don't think he'll pay you if you don't deliver the files in the format that he requested. But: he also won't pay you if he does not consider that he confirmed the job. What do you mean by "offer"?

Quit while you're ahead Nov 9, 2019

This project has trouble written all over it. If you can't get in touch with the client now, how are you going to communicate when it's time to discuss the quality of the translation, or invoicing, or any manner of other issues? I would bail if I were you. Send him an email explaining your concerns and your reasons for stopping the collaboration. Unless you signed some kind of leonine contract, he has no grounds for a lawsuit.

The quoted message from the outsourcer is clearly an offer ONLY.

If you replied this message but did not receive neither further confirmation nor a PO, you definitely should NOT do this job.

write to him im Russian and you will succeed. What a waste of time! Nov 9, 2019

Bad English, bad communication, no clear agreement - just drop it and next time follow the translation deal path: inquiry - proposal - settlement of outstanding particulars - order/PO - order confirmation.

Thanks for granting me a day off working for Paul Kim of Seul
