It is 8 years since we last held a Powwow in Cambridge - in the days when UK Powwows were still a rarity.
Last time we met at the Fort St George in England, by the river on Midsummer Common and attracted translators from all over East Anglia and further afield.
We could repeat the exercise - or find somewhere closer to the station if preferred.
A powwow in my old home town? Would love to come (if I can get over from Italy...). Sadly for me, it transpires I can't. Hope to meet you all at the next one.
I last attended a powwow in Cambridge about 12 years ago, when my daughter was studying for her PhD there. At that time I was living in Devon, but have now moved to Essex, so it will be a lot shorter journey.
I live in Cambridge, 10 mins walk from your last one at the Fort St. George! Will definitely be there and can organise a venue etc if needed. Looking forward to it!
Unfortunately I can't make it for my planned extended stay due to interpreting commitments. The school reunion in Cambridge the following weekend won out but I hope you might make this a regular event and that I'll get to the next one!

I am allowed one more "advert" and am planning to post in the "Translation in the UK" forum in early October. I have suggested 12:00 noon because, last time, quite a number of people had travelled from elsewhere and wanted something to eat, which anyway was some return for the landlord, who gave us the room for free. I spoke to the Manager of the Fort St George yesterday - very helpful. The room we used last time is not ideal in its present format but an imminent refurbishment will correct that and, if we are fewer than 15, we can use the snug. There is no fee and no obligation to buy food, though it is available - he is sending me a current menu, which I will try to make available. In the unlikely event that the refurb over-runs (it is scheduled to finish by the 22nd), they will find us a room in one... See more

Obviously we can compromise, but I am conscious that we are getting the room for free and this is no doubt based on the proprietor's expectation that some people at least, will order something to eat.

If you are lucky, it may be possible to find on-street parking in the Hamilton / Pretoria / Aylestone Road area, here: http://g.co/maps/x2zs6 and cross the footbridge to Midsummer Common.

I will be there from 12 if anyone else is planning to be. (I recently went to a Powwow in London where we must have spent about 3 hours before people had to go their separate ways, and I could happily have spent much longer - I still have lots to learn, so the more time the better - and unfortunately I won't be able to stay very late on this occasion, although certainly until after 2).

Sorry to have missed this, I hope you had a good time. I'll definitely try and be there next time. In the meantime, if any of you local Cambridge translators can help me out with a few hours Trados (2007) training, I would be very grateful. I would of course be happy to pay. I've been translating for quite a while, but I'm only just starting to use Trados and some local training would be great.
