Bio

I'm originally from Colombia, Latin America. My native language is Spanish but I started studying English at the age of 17, in High School. I liked the language so much that I decided to start a career on languages education, teaching ESL (English as a second language) to children and teenagers.

However, I started building my translation experience while I was studying.

I had the chance to translate several contracts of services rendered and some other informal documents from friends studying different fields, who needed documents to be translated from time to time. I also had the opportunity to work for a prestigious company (TATA Consultancy Services LATAM) as a Simultaneous Translator in 2009, where I worked for some months, until the client left Bogota, Colombia to return to his homeland, India.

Afterwards, I worked as a freelancer translator for an Aviation Company in Colombia, (Sicher Helicopters S.A.). My job consisted in translating a technical manual, which helped the company get its airworthiness certificate before the FAA (Federal American Aviation).

Moving forward in time, I also got the opportunity to act as a Translator/QA Tester/Support Agent, at the Software Company, ControlBox Corp. in 2011, where I had the chance to learn a lot about Software Development terminology, shipping, and money wiring as well. This was due that the software offered by the company was all about cargo shipping and money transfer. My duties consisted on testing the web application to then show developments requested by the software clients all over the world, through online meetings, attending troubleshooting calls from clients, (not very regularly) and translating development requirements sent by clients from English to Spanish, as software developers were all Spanish speakers).

While working there, I found a job offer to work overseas in the UAE (United Arab Emirates) as an English-Spanish, Spanish-English translator and interpreter for a security-related project. My job there was all about translating documents from English to Spanish and vice-verse (depending on their final destination). I also performed consecutive translation during all kind of training activities and conferences lectured by English speakers from all 5 continents to Spanish speaking attendants. I worked there for three and a half years, from August 2012 to November 2015. Then, I decided it was time to leave and so, returned to Colombia.

Back there, I worked for a US cycling wear manufacturing company with their textile factory in Bogota (Scudo Sportswear LLC). My job was to translate sublimation design requests from customers all over the world to Spanish speaking graphic designers, who then gave form to those based on the customer's description. I was also in charge of the phone sometimes, while most of the job was done via email with both customers and designers, until final approval to print and produce was given. I was also in charge of coordinating shipments using a FedEx powered system to generate shipment labels going everywhere in the United States of America. That job lasted almost a year, from April 2016 to February 2017.

Simultaneously, I got a job as a Test-Site Auditor for a Learning Auditing Company in Canada. I had to audit the way online TOEFL exams were conducted in some test-sites located in Bogotá, Colombia to check if standards set by them were being met accordingly.
