German to English: Sample - Nation als Kategorie populärer Musik General field: Other Detailed field: Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc.
Translation - English Whether the concept of the ‘nation’ is understood as a “general model of the relationship between state and citizenry” (Eric Hobsbawm 2004) or as “an imagined political community” (Benedict Anderson 1983) makes little difference: in view of the “continuing necessity of taking the ‘nation’ into account, factually and analytically, without again falling prey to methodological nationalism” (Maria Alexopoulos 2016), the systematically ‘false’ – but sociopolitically highly potent - identification of people with nation, stemming from the nationalism of the late 19th century, presents enormous challenges to political science, historical scholarship - and to popular music research.

Source text - German Jage die Ängste fort
Und die Angst vor den Ängsten.
Für die paar Jahre
Wird wohl alles noch reichen.
Das Brot im Kasten
Und der Anzug im Schrank.
Sage nicht mein.
Es ist dir alles geliehen.
Lebe auf Zeit und sieh,
Wie wenig du brauchst.
Richte dich ein.
Und halte den Koffer bereit.
Es ist wahr, was sie sagen:
Was kommen muß, kommt.
Geh dem Leid nicht entgegen.
Und ist es da,
Sieh ihm still ins Gesicht.
Es ist vergänglich wie Glück.
Erwarte nichts.
Und hüte besorgt dein Geheimnis.
Auch der Bruder verrät,
Geht es um dich oder ihn.
Den eignen Schatten nimm
Zum Weggefährten.
Feg deine Stube wohl.
Und tausche den Gruß mit dem Nachbarn.
Flicke heiter den Zaun
Und auch die Glocke am Tor.
Die Wunde in dir halte wach
Unter dem Dach im Einstweilen.
Zerreiß deine Pläne. Sei klug
Und halte dich an Wunder.
Sie sind lang schon verzeichnet
Im grossen Plan.
Jage die Ängste fort
Und die Angst vor den Ängsten
Translation - English Chase away your fears
And the fear of your fears.
For the few years remaining,
It will surely be enough.
The bread in the cupboard
And the suit in the closet.
Do not say mine.
Everything is loaned to you.
Live for the time and see
How little you need.
Arrange yourself.
And keep your suitcase ready.
It’s true what they say:
What must come, will come.
Don’t go to meet your suffering.
And if it is at hand,
Look it silently in the face.
It is as fleeting as joy.
Expect nothing.
And tend your secret carefully.
Even a brother will betray,
If it comes down to you or him.
Your own shadow take
As companion.
Sweep your room clean.
And exchange a greeting with your neighbor.
Mend cheerfully the fence
And the bell at the gate.
Keep the wound in you awake
Under the roof in the meantime.
Tear up your plans. Be clever
And hold fast to miracles.
They have long been writ down
In the greater plan.
Chase away your fears
And the fear of your fears.

I grew up in the U.S. and began working as a translator and copywriter in 2005.
My experience as a writer, translator, and editor covers countless academic papers and articles - many musical or musicological in nature, but also including literature, journalism, and general advertising. I have done voiceovers for podcasts, nature videos, and performed as a voice artist on musical recordings and served as the English voice of the Spiegel animated online animated series "Trump vs. Reality".
I have served as house translator/language consultant for the Institute for Jazz Research at the Arts University in Graz, Austria for over ten years, and I am currently employed as editor and PR agent for Austrian Music Export.
