I've been to 5 Powwows now (and organized one myself). Someone (generally the organizer) has generally volunteered to bring some sticky labels (the kind you use for envelopes) and a pen, and the participants have made up their own name tags as they arrive.
Russell - would that be a possibility? Could you possibly organize some sticky labels and a felt tip?

Sorry I'm a bit late into this discussion - gardening today! Yes the idea had occurred to me but now I won't forget. I've already collected all the details, language pairs etc. from everyone's profile page so I can use that for the purpose.

Following my Support Request to ProZ on one or two administrative details, Henry tells me that the Powwow FAQ page was out of date and he has amended it.
At least three possible attendees will want to know that Native Language Interviews are no longer possible at Powwows.
Verifying identities is possible with photo ID (passport etc.) but only for those who use their real names on their profile pages.

Thanks for bringing up the agenda again. As I mentioned in an e-mail to you before, I'd be very interested to learn a few tips on how to market oneself successfully. I hope it is not a subject nobody is interested in ...
Apart from that I have read the FAQs on Powwows and a report on a previous one and according to that it should be fun. I am looking forward to it!

At the powwows I've been to in the past the schedule has always been roughly the same.
1. When most of the people have arrived, everyone introduces themselves briefly (no more than a minute or two - with 20 participants even that could take more than half an hour), mentioning things like their name, where they live, their language pair(s), specialist subjects, expertise in particular areas, and, perhaps most importantly, any particular issues they would like to address at the powwow... When most of the people have arrived, everyone introduces themselves briefly (no more than a minute or two - with 20 participants even that could take more than half an hour), mentioning things like their name, where they live, their language pair(s), specialist subjects, expertise in particular areas, and, perhaps most importantly, any particular issues they would like to address at the powwow (e.g. finding out about the use of CAT tools, marketing for translators - to name but two that have already been mentioned above, etc.)
This allows the other participants to find out who everyone else is, and if translators do have particular expertise in a specific field (like CAT tools) that they would like to share, then they know who they can help with their knowledge.
2. The participants then generally chat among themselves, with groups for special interests/language pairs, etc. tending to form naturally.
As I mentioned above, I'll be bringing the old laptop along, so I would be happy to show anyone who's interested the workings of Trados. I see that Anette and Lisa have both expressed an interest in finding out more about the program (and there are probably others out there hiding in the woodwork....;-)
One common feature of all the powwows I've been to is that they've all been pretty informal, so imposing a set agenda (XYZ makes 30 minute presentation on marketing, OPQ makes 45 minute presentation on CAT tools, FGH makes 20 minute presentation on the intricacies (spelling?) of translations about semi-amphibous mammals in equatorial regions..... would probably be a bit OTT.

That sounds like a successful formula. On the agenda question though, from the responses to my questionnaire, there was a unanimous view that this Powwow should be a combination of formal and informal discussions. I don't think anyone was visualising presentations, just a round table discussion on specific items of particular interest to those attending.
I'm also looking forward to seeing Trados in action.

I have Sandra, Sheila, Bob and Dolly's full names from CVs etc. but if anyone would prefer a different name from that on their profile page, please let me know.
