Powwow Costa del Sol Mar 26, 2012

Hello Ivette,
I was about to ask the same as Pedro and have just noticed your recent reply. I have stayed on the Costa del Sol on many occasions including Benalmádena and Fuengirola. I am very interested in attending the Powwow on 21st April and intend to combine it as part of a short break. The last time I visited the Costa del Sol, in 2008, I used the local train network a lot (C1 – Cercanias) which stops in Benalmádena, Carvajal and Fuengirola. If I decided to use rail again this time which of these stations would be closest to you?
With regard to the town houses you have mentioned in your previous messages is bed and breakfast included?

Kind regards

Hi and welcome, too!

Again, if you visit my place's website, you will get a better idea of where I am located. The nearest Cercanías train station, as I had commented on my previous reply to Hope, is Carvajal. From there to my place is a walk of around 15-20 mns., depending on how you walk uphill (as you have to go uphill).

About the places I originally mentioned, one of them is not available any more (the one on the Tío Charles area, the other one I would need to check a

Málaga portion of Powwow on Friday Mar 26, 2012

Hello everyone,

I'm glad to see some more people are thinking about attending! Also, for those of you who would be interested in doing something in Málaga prior to meeting for drinks in the evening, I will be planning some Friday afternoon activities (a sort of pre-pre-powwow!), probably including lunch on the water at around 16.00 (or maybe a bit earlier), and perhaps a look at the Cathedral and/or the Alcazaba if there's time/interest. Anyone is welcome to join in. So stay tuned for that - I will post an exact schedule as soon as I have time!

Cheers,

Travel Mar 27, 2012

For those who will be staying in Málaga or very close to it, I was wondering how you intend to travel to the barbecue. According to Ivette’s message on Monday it appears there is an uphill walk lasting 20 minutes in what may be very warm conditions. Would anyone know of transport options from Carvajal station to the powwow venue?

Thanks
Eugene

Hi Eugene,

Sorry for not replying till today, but I have been really busy, between personal things and work.

About the venue of the Saturday powwow, to be honest, everything is still subject to rain. This week it has been very rainy, which usually coincides with Easter week vacation, so I hope by the time we have the Saturday powwow the rain time is gone.

Anyway, should we continue having the barbecue on Saturday as planned, you got a train nearby (and also buses) to come here. The nearest train station is called Carvajal. Buses leave from Malaga (from the main city bus terminal) to this area, but I am not sure now which number (I will have to check this).

Should you take the train, once you come down from the train station, you can take a taxi, as there is a taxi stop right across the train station area, on the main 340 motorway area. You can always call me to give you more details, once you are there.

As for the meal/drink expenses, I think the most practical thing will be to collect that during the "pre-powwow", because, again, let us hope that on Saturday we have no rain. If in the end we have rain, then we will have to meet somewhere else, in a restaurant. I can improvise on-the-fly no problem, lots of options available.

Let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Kind regards,

Ivette

P.S.: just emailed you this same reply, as per your internal message.

Final confirmation Apr 16, 2012

[Correction due to wrong word used in this original message.]

Dear all,

As I will be ordering some of the food for Saturday via a restaurant/catering service, I need you to confirm your definite decision regarding "attendance" by this Wednesday noon at the latest, "come rain or come shine".

I just sent all those already signed (above) a message via email about this, so I appreciate your feedback as soon as possible.

Cheers,

http://www.visitacostadelsol.com/donde-comer-y-beber/restaurantes/restaurante-el-balneario-p31301

This is around a 45 min. walk according to google maps, but I find the walking times are usually shorter than they indicate. But anyone who's not up for the walk is welcome to take the bus and meet us at El Balneario.

Then we return to the city center for the Pre-Powwow to meet at Antigua Casa de Guardia at 7:15 pm:

http://www.andaluciaenruta.com/bares-de-tapas-en-malaga-antigua-casa-de-guardia/2204/

We will surely continue on from there so beware latecomers! Anyone who has trouble finding us can reach me at +34 645 099 149.

Also, Ivette will be collecting the €20 fee to cover food and drinks at Saturday's powwow in Benalmádema on Friday (TIA!).

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Map for Friday's excursion Apr 17, 2012

Oops, forgot to post the map showing where everything is:

http://g.co/maps/36b5h

A = Cathedral, meeting point (4 pm)
B = El Balneario
C = Antigua Casa de Guardia (7:15 pm)

D = Corte Ingles, which is where Ivette plans on meeting those not joining the Friday afternoon excursion at 7 pm - as you see it's quite close to Antigua Casa de Guardia.

Hasta pronto!

Weekend Apr 17, 2012

Hi everyone, I am looking forward to meeting up at the weekend in Málaga.

Is there anyone else thinking of going on Saturday who is facing this dilemma? I am also thinking of transport options heading back to Málaga after the event too. Please let me know your thoughts.

Also according to Susan’s information this morning, it appears that Ivette is meeting up at El Corte Ingles on Calle Hilera. From looking on Streetview in Google Earth I believe this to be the smaller branch of the company and not the very big El Corte Ingles over the road from there in Avenida de Andalucia – can anyone confirm if I am right?

Kind regards
Eugene

Meeting point - big Corte Ingles Apr 17, 2012

Hi Eugene, you're right, Ivette means the main Corte Ingles as you suspected. I just didn't check carefully when I entered the location into Google maps and it must have given me the small one.
Cheers,
Susan

I mean the Corte Inglés entrance door on the far right of this photo, located on Héroes de Sostoa (facing the Centro Alameda Renfe train station).

About transportation from Malaga, I just checked the timetable I got between stations Carvajal and Malaga Centro Alameda (which you can also check online http://www.renfe.com/viajeros/cercanias/malaga/index.html ):

From Malaga Centro Alameda station, you have trains running from 17:10, 17:30, 17:50
From Carvajal station, you have trains running every 20 minutes, the last one leaving at 23:26 (11:26 pm)

Again, it is not such a bad walk from Carvajal to where I live, I do it all the time. It should take you around 20-30 minutes (uphill one part). From where I live to Carvajal is the same, but obviously easier, as it is downhill. But like I previously said, if you are not into walking, there is a taxi stop right on the N-340 when you come down from the Carvajal station, which should be around 8 euros. Depending on the time of your arrival, maybe one of us could meet you at Carvajal to make things easier for you, but it really is a no-brainer.

On Friday I will be handing out a map of how to get from Carvajal and to my apartment in general.

Hope that helps,

Ivette

Hi all, I'd like to attend, but I can only come on Saturday. Should I just bring the food/drinks money with me or should I pay in advance?
