"Conduction: A Guiding Principle to Getting into the Translation Market"

As the global economy becomes an increasingly harsher environment, many of our new colleagues find themselves frustrated. Even fewer clients seem open to hiring new freelancers, who have little or no experience, which in turn creates a vicious cycle. This can easily cut new translators and interpreters' aspirations short. I've been working as a freelance translator for more than 7 years, and for 3 years now I've made it my purpose to help graduates transition smoothly into the translation market. For this process, there is a set of principles that will help you guide your steps. Today we'll be focusing on conduction, an essential tool for you to create your own success as a translator, even in these hard times.

"Six Months Into the Pandemic: What Has Changed and What Freelance Translators Can Do to Generate Business"

A lot can happen in six months. A fact highlighted by COVID-19 and its impact on all sectors of the economy. Based on survey by CSA over half of all freelance linguists (56%) reported a decrease in earnings in the first half of 2020. Even six months in, 28 percent of translators can’t predict when things will go back to normal. So, if you’re uncertain, you’re not alone. But there is no use wallowing, or feeling defeated. The best thing we can do is to take action, to keep marketing because there is, and still will be a need for professional translators in the future. Tess Whitty discusses strategies and actions we can take to generate business and have a more positive outlook for the future.
