Flu spanyol yang diakibatkan oleh virus tentu memberikan antibodi untuk melawan virus tersebut pada orang - orang yang telah berhasil selamat. Dengan semakin banyaknya orang yang mendapatkan herd immunity, maka tentu semakin banyak orang yang terlindungi dari flu spanyol ini. Kekebalan ini pun diteruskan dari generasi ke generasi, sehingga pandemik ini sering dikatakan dengan the forgotten pandemic.
