I am a translator with a strong academic background as well as a creative background as a writer. I believe translation offers excellent opportunities to improve writing skills, combining research with the creative quest of finding the right words.
About my method of translation: I often check with native speakers who are familiar with the subject, thus providing a high quality standard. To me translating is not just a matter of finding the right words, it is also a matter of understanding the cultural background that evokes meanings that are often implicitly put and thus hard to detect. My background as a sinologist enables me to unravel these meanings. I have found that years of living in a foreign environment has also been very much of a help.
