I can't give you the official French term, but I just wanted to check in to explain that this is referring to areas (= zones) where sources of ignition have to be avoided (places like minbes, or anywhere there is a potential explosion hazard from sparks or hot components)

And the 'protection' does not mean that it is fire-proofed, but that the area itself must be protected against sources of ignition.

EN 60079 discusses defining these sorts of areas, but unfortunately doesn't actually use this term! It does talk abour 'régions', and also, confusingly, 'zones'

Other standards, and some CA sites, seem to use 'ignition', though Eurodicautom give 'inflammation' for it in this sense.

Suggestion : en cas de doute, il serait souhaitable de demander au client, car il s'agit d'une consigne de sécurité majeure ;-)
