Since the mid nineties NRW has developed into one of the leading Life Science business locations in Europe. Around 450 companies from the fields of biotechnology, pharma and medical technology are based here complemented by further companies dealing with Life Sciences as a side business field and almost twice as many suppliers and service providers within the Life Science environment.

Probabilmente non si tratta solo dello studio, ma anche di tutte le attività economiche collegate a queste ricerche, quindi le aziende farmaceutiche, quelle specializzate in biotecnologie, ecc. Probabilmente la città X, un po' come il Nordrhein-Westfalen, è diventata un centro cruciale/specializzato nella ricerca e nelle attività economiche relative al settore "scienze della vita"
