Dutch term

eigen regen

Dutch to English Marketing Idioms / Maxims / Sayings Open ended survey responses
The question being answered is:

Welke negatieve gebeurtenis/aktie/situatie in de laatste 12 maanden, heeft op jouw eigen betrokkenheid het meest invloed gehad?

The respondent gave:

eigen regen voor het draaien van het werk.

"Bad luck", perhaps?

Can't imagine any other imagery here besides Charlie Brown stumbling around with a raincloud hanging over his head.

Discussion

Marijke Singer Apr 14, 2012:
Having to do my own thing/take responsibility I think that the person is complaining about the fact that he or she needs to determine what must be done and take responsibility.

triathlon shot regeL.

Bryan Crumpler (asker) Apr 13, 2012:
@Anne: I see that now. Thanks for trying though.
Anne Lee Apr 13, 2012:
misunderstood the context Ok, Bryan, the references to 'regie' and 'draaien' led me up the garden path.
Bryan Crumpler (asker) Apr 13, 2012:
BTW It's from an employee at a malt plant. Not sure where the discussion turned into a movie making process. Can someone (perhaps a native) clarify though whether or not "eigen regen" makes up part of any idiom or saying?
Anne Lee Apr 13, 2012:
self-inflicted pain He attracted problems by choosing to make the movie.
katerina turevich Apr 13, 2012:
Or... having a reason to get work/to do a job/to get out of bed
I am not trying to bring any value judgements into it, but it could be (the same as what Henk suggested/eigen regie) that someone objects having to do the same stuff all over again at someones else's beck and call :-))
katerina turevich Apr 13, 2012:
eigen reden ..is also possible as a typo. In that case: 'turning up at work for reasons known only to oneself". or say, "a real (own) reason to turn up at work"
Henk Peelen Apr 13, 2012:
eigen regie moet haast wel een typo voor eigen regie zijn.
Verginia Ophof Apr 12, 2012:
making life miserable for yourself at work/on the job ?
Verginia Ophof Apr 12, 2012:
another long, long shot raining on your own parade at work/job rotation/shifts = to spoil my own jobs
freekfluweel Apr 12, 2012:
long shot to have to blame yourself although merely trying to keep up with all the work.

(sacrificing himself in order to keep his job) Maybe he's fired by now (not his fault!).
