2.2.2 Electric Control Heads
The Electric control heads provide for the electrical actuation of the CO2 cylinder valves.
The control heads are operated electrically by the ECU Panel.
Actuation of the CO2 system is initiated by use of electric control heads.
Control heads are components that attach to the control ports of the carbon dioxide cylinder valves.
The control head initiates the suppression system discharge by opening the cylinder valve's pilot check.
This allows carbon dioxide to pressurize the discharge head piston, which opens the main check in the valve and discharges the contents of the cylinder.
The electric control head contains a micro-switch whose contacts are used to make the electrical circuit to the solenoid when the head is actuated.
This reduces the overall power consumption of the fire suppression system.
