Te incluyo una definición que encontré por ahí.
Named Insured
The party who contracts for insurance and who is named in the policy. 401 N.Y.S. 2d 374, 377. It sometimes happens that one who is a named insured has a claim in tort against another who is an additional insured under the policy. For example, the owner of an insured automobile may lend it to another whose operation of the vehicle injures the owner (the named insured). 197 N.E. 516.

Lo he visto traducido como Asegurado Principal, aunque, con base en la definición que te he transcrito, yo casi optaría por distinguirlos como "tomador asegurado" (named insured) y "coasegurado" (insured).

Lo del coasegurado lo puse para evitar matices de subsidiariedad. Según los datos que he encontrado, el insured es una persona asegurada igualmente y al mismo nivel que el named insured, y nunca con carácter subsidiario. Por eso se me ocurrió lo de "coasegurado", como "asegurado junto con el tomador".
Aunque, pensándolo bien, creo que me quedo con asegurado secundario, que lo de coasegurado también puede dar lugar a confusión...

De hecho, ¿sabes qué te digo?? Insured = Asegurado adicional. Named Insured = Asegurado Principal.
Y se evitan todo tipo de problemas.
