Can anyone tell me what is going on in this sentence?

Englisch Übersetzung:reactant... gas chamber
Erklärung:
reaktant = reactant, you may also find quite often reagent. The meaning is the same.
Gasraum = gas chamber.
I would almost bet that the liquids are colliding, reacting together and are then evaporated to be introduced into some analysing device (mass spectrometer?) to see the results of the reaction. This explains why it is talked about a "gas chamber" when liquids are fed in. This chamber is probably under partial vacuum (around 1 torr).

Düse = jet. This is a restrictor which causes the stream to accelerate (otherwise the flow would not be constant which is not possible because liquid are mainly not compressible).

Aufeinander geschossen = thrown against each other. If there is enough kinetic energy, (speed) the mixing effect will be good and chemical reactions will occur.

Here is the complete sentence

The dual head membrane pump generates two liquid streams containing chemical reactants and forces them through two confining and accelerating jets causing them to collide at high speed and mix thoroughly in a gas chamber.

two liquid streams…

My impression is that the clause durch Düsen gepresst – even though it sounds lie an event that’s sequential to initial event – is part of that event. My best guess as to what’s going on here and how to translate is this:

>>….two liquid streams containing chemical reactants are forced into a gas space through nozzles to form converging high-speed jets that become thoroughly mixed as they collide.<<

More context could b e helpful: In the Pulp and Paper industry _Gasraum_ can denote >>top<< [of a digester]. If this is applicable, just edit accordingly.

All the best, Tom
