Italian term

appiattirsi su

Italian to English Bus/Financial Finance (general)
I can see the connection with appiattirsi/farsi piatto, but I can't imagine what this means and how it might be expressed in English? Thank you.

Z - (female executive) is a generally unpopular character in this affair, but it is the first mention of Y (male manager) in the report by X (former CEO).

"..si sia aperta una voragine nell'area dei **, gestita da Y che si era praticamente appiattito su Z."

Grazie mille in anticipo

As a result, Y was subject to disciplinary action by X.

The gist of it would seem to be this:

Basically Y was performing so badly that he practically fell to the same level as z.
