Spanish term

baliza

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Engineering (general)
Las BALIZAS de la serie XXX han sido concebidas para garantizar la iluminación de seguridad en escaleras, pasillos, corredores, etc.

Luminaire? Emergency light/lighting? Beacon? How would you say it in this context?

Thanks in advance!

Discussion

bigedsenior Nov 4, 2005:
Daisalux is a Spanish company. Somebody chose to call or translate their lights as beacon lights, which is confusing terminology. It is not a good example. Here is a good example of beacon light:http://www.wolo-mfg.com/warning-light.htm
bigedsenior Nov 3, 2005:
Beacon is a light or radio signal used to indicate a geographical point, like a lighthouse beacon. Is this possibly a backtrans?
With a separate power supply, it would be auxiliary or emergency (as Marina suggests) lights
Marta Mozo (asker) Nov 3, 2005:
I found a page where these particular "balizas" are described and they use the word BEACON.
Marta Mozo (asker) Nov 3, 2005:
The "balizas" are self-contained, they have separate power supply. Thanks!

The answer depends on whether or not these lights have separate power supply. Can you determine this?

Peer comment(s):

agree Carlos Segura : Good suggestion, or alternatively safety lighting. In any case, I don't think this is emergency lighting, or it would specifically indicate so. Emergency lighting only comes on in emergencies, but balizas could be on in normal conditions, as in airports.
