Der Lichtdesignerin Carlotta de Bevilacqua geht es weniger um bloßes Design als darum, das Licht im Raum optimal zur Geltung zu bringen. Und das in möglichst energieeffizienter Weise.
Design, das die Menschen erfreut, das schön anzusehen ist, sich gut anfühlt und ansprechende Hüllen für Gebrauchsgegenstände schafft, ohne deren Funktion allzu sehr zu beeinträchtigen – das sind so die gängigen Rollenbilder, die man mit Design verbindet. Die Mailänder Architektin und Designerin Carlotta de Bevilacqua, die sich hauptsächlich mit Lichtdesign beschäftigt, sieht das ganz anders: „Ich will die Leute mit meinen Entwürfen dazu bringen, verantwortungsbewusster zu handeln. Ich versuche, Dinge zu designen, die das Licht auf intelligente Weise ,managen’, sprich, unter weniger Materialeinsatz und mit geringerem Verbrauch. Design ist kein Selbstzweck, und gutes Design muss heute auch nachhaltig sein!“ Das Wort „nachhaltig“ ist mittlerweile freilich inflationsbedroht. Aber Carlotta de Bevilacqua sagt es nicht bloß so, sondern sie handelt auch danach. So ist sie eine große Verfechterin des Leuchtkörpers LED (Leuchtdiode), dem ihrer Überzeugung nach die Zukunft gehört. Die LED verbraucht einen Bruchteil der Energie einer herkömmlichen Lichtquelle und ist um ein Vielfaches langlebiger. Sie rechnet vor: „Eine Glühbirne hält 1.000 Stunden, ein Spot 3.000 Stunden. Mit einem LED-Spot komme ich 80.000 Stunden aus, das sind bei normalem Verbrauch mehr als zwanzig Jahre!“ Allerdings sind LEDs nach wie vor teurer. Vom designerischen Aspekt gesehen, hat die LED viele Vorzüge, weiß de Bevilacqua: „Die Leuchtdiode selbst ist ganz klein, sodass ich große Freiheiten beim Entwerfen der Leuchte habe. Ich kann mich ganz darauf konzentrieren, wie ich das Licht im Raum zur Geltung bringen möchte.“ Das Licht nämlich ist ihr primäres Anliegen, nicht die Leuchte oder Lampe – die sind nur Mittel zum Zweck. Das habe mehr mit Architektur zu tun, als man glauben würde, erklärt die Mailänderin, die an der dortigen Architektur-Fakultät unterrichtet: „Für einen Architekten ist auch Licht nichts anderes als ein weiteres ,Baumaterial’. Man gestaltet den Raum in Funktion der gewünschten Lichtverhältnisse.“
Ingeniös, versatil, ökologisch
Carlotta de Bevilacquas Designverständnis lässt sich schlagwortartig so zusammenfassen: ökologisch nachhaltig; designerisch vielseitig; und von der Technik her tüftlerisch. „In meinen Entwürfen finden Sie keine Dekadenz, keine überflüssigen Formen. Ich bin sehr technisch orientiert und gehe von der gewünschten Funktion aus. Die Emotion kommt ganz zum Schluss, aber sie kommt, wohlgemerkt, nicht zu kurz!“, sagt sie.
Als beispielhaft in diesem Sinne kann Carlotta de Bevilacquas Pendelleuchte „Copernico“ gelten, die aus mehreren nur 5 mm dicken Ellipsen besteht, die ihrerseits mit zahlreichen LED bestückt sind. Das aus recyclierbarem Material bestehende Stück wird flach angeliefert und benötigt daher wenig Platz und Verpackungsmaterial. Im ausgefahrenen Zustand erinnert „Copernico“ ans Planetensystem des Namensgebers, ihre Gestalt lässt sich aber von Hand ganz einfach und in vielfältiger Weise variieren. „So schafft sich jeder nach Belieben sein eigenes Lichtdesign.“
Ein weiteres schönes Beispiel für Carlotta de Bevilacquas Auffassung von Design, bei der immer auch ein Anliegen mitschwingt, ist „Altrove“ (italienisch für „anderswo“): ein quadratisches Objekt von einem Quadratmeter mit einem Alu-Rahmen wie ein Gemälde, in dem das Licht in fließender Bewegung über transparente und gar nicht schnurgerade verlaufende Nylonkabel geleitet und durch eine Spiegelfläche reflektiert wird. „Wir interagieren mit dem Licht“, erklärt sie, „,Altrove’ ist in den verschiedensten Farben einstellbar, die ihre jeweilige psychologische Wirkung entfalten.“ Die stets eine des Wohlbefindens ist. „Altrove“, ein Objekt wie ein abstraktes, dabei Licht spendendes Gemälde, das zur Kontemplation einlädt und nicht zufällig in Krankenhäusern ein Erfolg ist.

Lighting designer Carlotta de Bevilacqua is not so much about mere design, as optimal accentuation of the light in a space. In the most energy efficient way possible.
Design that pleases people, that is pleasant to look at, feels good and creates an appealing surround for objects of utility without significantly affecting their function - these are the current ideals associated with design. Milanese architect and designer Carlotta de Bevilacqua, who engages mainly in lighting design, sees things very differently. "I want my designs to encourage people to act more responsibly. I try to design objects that 'manage' light in intelligent ways, that is, with less input and lower consumption. Design is not an end in itself and these days good design must also be sustainable!" Admittedly, the word "sustainable" is now at risk of over-inflation. But Carlotta de Bevilacqua doesn't just talk about it, she acts on her convictions. She is a great champion of the LED (light-emitting diode) light fitting, which, in her opinion, is the future. The LED uses a fraction of the energy of a traditional light source and lasts many times longer. "A light bulb lasts 1,000 hours, a spotlight lasts 3,000 hours," she estimates. "From an LED spotlight you get 80,000 hours, that's more than twenty years of normal use!" However, LEDs are still relatively expensive. Bevilacqua knows that the LED has many advantages from a designer's point of view. "The light-emitting diode itself is very small, which means that I have a great deal of freedom when designing the lights. I can focus fully on how I want to accentuate the light in a space. The light itself is her primary concern, not the lights or lamps - these are just a means to an end. It has more to do with architecture than one would think, explains the Milanese, who lectures at the School of Architecture there. "For an architect, even light is nothing but an additional 'building material'. The space is arranged according to the desired lighting conditions."
Ingenious, versatile, ecological
Carlotta de Bevilacqua's design philosophy can be summed up in these buzzwords: ecologically sustainable; versatile in design; and, from a technical aspect, meticulous. "In my designs you will find no decadence, no gratuitous forms. I am very technically orientated and start with the desired function. Emotion comes right at the end, but rest assured, it is not neglected!" she says.
A good example of this is Carlotta de Bevilacqua's pendant light "Copernico", which consists of several ellipses, just 5mm thick, fitted with numerous LEDs. The pieces, which consist of recyclable material, are delivered flat and therefore require little space or packaging. In its expanded form, "Copernico" is reminiscent of the planetary system of its namesake, but its design makes it very simple to vary by hand in all manner of ways. "This means everyone can create their own light design to their own taste."
Another nice example of Carlotta de Bevilacqua's design concept, which constantly resonates her concerns, is "Altrove" (Italian for "elsewhere") - a one-metre square object with an aluminium frame like a painting, in which light is conducted in flowing movements over irregular, transparent nylon cables and reflected in a mirrored surface. "We interact with the light," she explains. "'Altrove' can be adjusted to a variety of colours and each one displays its particular psychological effect. Which is always one of wellbeing. "Altrove", an object like an abstract, light-giving painting, which invites contemplation, so it’s no accident that it is a success in hospitals.

Anderthalb Jahre vor der Markteinführung des Fahrzeugs waren die Sicherheitsvorkehrungen am Set enorm. Selbst an entlegenen Drehorten auf den Hawaii-Inseln Oahu und Kaua’i sowie auf dem Gelände der NASA in New Orleans galt es, das Fahrzeg gegen neugierge Paparazzi zu schützen.
Neben den Mercedes-Benz Fahrzeugen im Film ist zum Kinostart ein umfangreiches Co-Promotion Paket geplant.

The first prototype of this new SUV-sector vehicle, which was handmade specially for filming, can be seen in the movie, right in time for its mid-2015 market launch. The GLE 450 AMG Sport is convincing on screen in dynamic off-road scenes set against the tropical backdrop of Jurassic World. One-and-a-half years before the vehicle's market launch, the security measures on set were huge. Even in remote filming locations on the Hawaiian Islands of Oahu and Kaua'i and on NASA terrain in New Orleans, the vehicle had to be shielded from eager photographers.
Alongside the Mercedes-Benz vehicles featuring in the movie, an extensive co-promotion package is planned for the cinema release.

Denn der Strand liegt direkt zwischen Muskat und Sur auf der Höhe Wadi Shab. Diese Route wird oft von Reisenden gewählt, um eine Rundreise mit dem Auto zu starten. Wie der Name schon verrät, liegt die Besonderheit des Strandes in seiner weißen Farbe. Tatsächlich ist der Sand und die dort liegenden Steine in einem prägnanten Weißton vorzufinden. Ein längerer Aufenthalt in dieser kargen und teilweise leblosen Landschaft bietet sich für diejenigen an, die für ein paar Tage fernab jeglicher Zivilisation ihre Ruhe haben wollen. Dazu bietet ein Campingbereich in der Nähe des Strandes die Möglichkeit eigene Zelte aufzuschlagen. Der Campingereich besteht einfach nur aus einem markierten Bereich, in dem man offiziell Zelten darf. Verpflegung sollten die Besucher sicherheitshalber selbst mitbringen.

This route is often chosen by travellers as the start of a circular road trip. As the name implies, the beach's characteristic feature is its white colour. The sand and the stones lying on it really are a striking shade of white. This is not only unusual for the area, it is also rare in Oman.
The beach does not offer any infrastructure for visitors but it doesn't need to because White Beach is perfect for cooling-off briefly en route. A longer stay in this sparse and to some extent lifeless landscape would suit those who want to have a couple of days' peace far away from any civilisation. You can pitch your own tents at a camping area near to the beach, but this consists merely of a marked area in which you are officially allowed to camp. Visitors should bring food with them to be on the safe side.
