Lebenslauf
Looking for accurate, polished translations from English or Dutch into German that read like an original? You've come to the right address!

EDUCATIONAL AND TRANSLATION BACKGROUND

I am a native speaker of German and graduated from the University of Bonn with a degree in Translation Studies in 2008. I then moved to the UK, where I worked as an in-house translator for over three years, mainly translating from English into German. In 2012, being offered a position with a language services provider in Berlin, I moved back to Germany. Following another three years as an in-house translator and lead linguist for a major client from the e-commerce industry, I had a solid background to set up my own freelance business.

MY SPECIALTIES

During my time as an in-house translator, I came into contact with all sorts of texts from various fields, from legal contracts to medical patient education brochures, from press releases to hotel websites, from business correspondence to software manuals and beyond. I translated both for private individuals and for big multinational companies. Due to the amount of exposure and my personal affinity, Marketing, Market Research, Business/Commerce, IT and Tourism have become the fields that I feel most comfortable in and in which I have done most work in recent years. As a freelancer, I have translated websites, press releases, newsletters, brochures, market research surveys, business book summaries, online help, training material, descriptions of travel destinations and much more.

QUALITY GUARANTEE

I treat every single translation with the utmost care and only accept projects that I feel qualified for. The QA procedure I follow consists of several steps, including spellcheck, comparison of source to target, and further refining of the target text (of which there may be several rounds in cases where style is of particular importance). The end result is a translation characterized by absolute accuracy and a style that is fit for purpose, each and every time.

HOW JAPANESE AND DUTCH FIT INTO MY LIFE

My university studies included Japanese, but with its complex writing system it is a language that requires constant practice. My career to date has had such a strong focus on the English language that I prefer to restrict Japanese to personal use. As for Dutch, I learned the language more or less by "osmosis" as I grew up near the Dutch border, watching Dutch TV and reading Dutch on a regular basis. I once participated in an EU competition for translators and achieved 79 out of 80 points for translation from Dutch into German.
