You can export the TM in TMX-format, which is compatible w/ Trados, so yes, it is possible to use Wordfast for jobs which require Trados. I would, however, ask the client if it is ok to use WF instead of Trados. The way I see it, it's a matter of being honest. Having used both, I find that Wordfast is better at many things (like building glossaries, going back and forth in the document, only one window, propagating, etc.), but Trados is a tad more stable to work with if the document...
