I'm translating some articles by a political and social commentator and he uses this phrase a couple of times in the context of religion. I understand it to be used to describe someone who is keen to condemn others' practice of their faith (or their lack of faith).

What connotations do you understand from the phrase and is it a quote from a particular source? Perhaps it isn't specifically a religious idea? I'm considering the phrase "trigger happy" to suggest that someone is quick to condemn - judging first and then asking questions later. Grateful for any ideas - thanks!
