German term

Durchwuchskontrolle

German to English Science Agriculture Safety measures for field trials of GM crops

I think "Durchwuchs" is the sprouting of a plant from the previous season's sowing, and the "Kontrolle" that scientists are required to carry out when performing field trials is to destroy any Durchwuchs.
Anyone out there know what the specific terminology is for this in English?
