This is, I think, about reception by the reading audience. Rather than talk in terms of effects, I think English prefers the active rather than the passive.

In response to Lancashireman's response to me (no space to write in the box), I would say that in reception theory, the reception is not considered to be imposed on a reader, i.e. the reception is not passive, but is a choice.

: Interesting that in the above blurb, the term Rezeptionsweisen is used three times. PS there's nothing wrong with your answer, but I don't think it would be used in literary theory, whereas it might be in a scientific context as per your link.

Yes, I noticed that too and was playing around with variations on 'receive/reception' (passive) but concluded that they did not convey the idea of Wirken/Wirkung (active).

: This isn't a grammar issue: "in" is OK b/c it's about author's writing style and sentence structure within the novels. "impact" and "reception" (w/o modes) may be two sides of the same coin, but seen from a different angle, IMO.

So, Lesewirkung is the book's "special effects," whereas reception is the interpretation by the reader. "Reader responses" come after all of that.
In particular, I cannot see how modes/patterns would fit in here. Rezeption and Wirkung are two different things. Scientifically, Rezeptionsweise is about how often you watch certain TV programs, etc. That, however, has little to do with the issue at hand. There's also the mode of interpretation, as suggested, but I still wouldn't feel comfortable with it.
