Anschriftenstamm

Zur Erfassung eines Kunden muss es min. einen Anschriftenstamm geben. Dieser wird dann dem jeweiligen Kundenstamm zugeordnet.

I'm somewhat confused how best to translate "-stamm." I know there are two examples here. I couldn't find the first one in my dictionaries. I found "customer base" for the second one. Would you use "file" for both or what would you say?

Thanks.

master file

In the IT company I worked for, we called "Stammdaten" "master files".

master record

Is this SAP or something similar? If so, it is definitely "master record", i.e. "address master record", "customer master record", etc. You will also see it shortened to "master", e.g. "This is then assigned to the appropriate customer master".

agree Ken Cox : The best fit here -- a record is an element of a file.
