Background for this translation: If you try to find "refraktiver Zustand" or similar terms in a medical / universitary context, there will be only a few documents. One of the text showed, e.g., "stabiler refraktiver Zustand". If you search in turn for "stabile Refraktion" you find a lot of relevant documents --> only websites from Germany!
In German, Zustand or Status is often left out, and simply "Refraktion" is therefore my choice in this case.
