Ausgangstext - Deutsch Eine äußerst interessante Studie des Projekts Theratalk von der Universität in Göttingen erstaunt viele Menschen. Bisher glaubten die meisten von ihnen, dass zu viel Sex Stress verursachen würde. Doch genau das Gegenteil kann nach Auswertung des Projekts der Fall sein. Praktizieren Menschen zu wenig Sex miteinander, kann die Folge hoher Stress sein.
Das haben wir schon immer gewusst, mögen sexfreudige Geister in diesen Tagen denken. Stress ist bekanntermaßen ein Lustkiller. Die Göttinger jedoch haben herausgefunden, dass Sexmangel den Stresspegel steigern lassen kann. Betroffene Paare geraten in einen beziehungsfeindlichen Strudel, aus dem sie allein kaum noch im Stande sind zu fliehen. Über 30.000 Männer und Frauen nahmen am Projekt teil. Mit dem Ergebnis, dass ein Drittel von ihnen, die maximal ein Mal pro Woche Sex miteinander haben, sich Hals über Kopf in die Arbeit stürzen. Eine Form der Frustbewältigung über das vermurkste Liebesleben unterm eigenen Dach. Je weniger im eigenen Bett - oder sonst wo passiert, umso mehr steigert sich die Arbeitswut der Betroffenen.
Wer hingegen schon zwei Mal binnen einer Woche Sex mit seinem Partner hat, der lässt es im Job entspannter angehen. Arbeitgeber mögen die Ohren spitzen und unruhig werden. Motto: Meine Leute sollten weniger Sex haben, dann leisten sie mehr. Doch es sollte in den Führungsetagen angekommen sein, dass Menschen ausbrennen und in Depressionen verfallen können. Mit entsprechenden Ausfallzeiten. Und Aktionismus ist nicht gleichzusetzen mit Produktivität. Ein sexuell aktiver und entspannter Mensch kann durchaus erfolgreich sein.
Dass ein Mangel an Sex Stress verursacht, der wiederum ein Lustkiller ist, ergänzt sich. Experten sprechen von einer Abwärtsspirale. Was für eine Beziehung auf Dauer das Aus bedeuten kann. Indikatoren sind sexuelle Frustration und Unzufriedenheit. Daher ist es wichtig, dass Paare ihre sexuellen Aktivitäten und ihre Zufriedenheit sowie ihre individuelle Befriedigung stets im Auge behalten. Besonders wichtig ist, dass man ohne Vorbehalte miteinander redet. Schweigen aus Scham oder gar aus falsch verstandener Rücksichtnahme ist ein Fehler. Wenn es zwei Menschen allein nicht schaffen, darüber zu reden und langfristig glücklich zu sein, ist eine Paartherapie zu empfehlen. Zu verdrängen, ist der Schritt ins mögliche Beziehungsende oder andere Dramen. Zurück zur Studie. Sexuell Frustrierte nehmen oft Verpflichtungen an, die sie nur schwerlich wieder loswerden. Wie Vereinsaktivitäten. Man möchte sich damit einfach nur ablenken vom akuten Sexfrust. Man hat infolge dessen weniger Zeit für die eigene Beziehung, was sich natürlich negativ auf die sexuelle Zufriedenheit auswirkt. Ein äußerst gefährlicher Teufelskreis!

A fascinating study, part of the Theratalk project at Göttingen University, is surprising many people. Until now, most believed that too much sex would lead to stress. But, according to the project, exactly the opposite turns out to be true. For those having too little sex, the result can be higher levels of stress.
“Tell us something we don't know!” is what sex-loving types might be thinking. Stress is a known exterminator of lust. The Göttingen gurus, however, have discovered that a lack of sex can cause one’s stress levels to rise. Affected couples find themselves in a relationship-unfriendly mess from which they are hardly in any condition to extricate themselves. More than 30,000 men and women took part in the project, with the result that a third of them - those who have sex a maximum of once a week - throw themselves heart and soul into their work: one form of coming to terms with the train-wreck of a love life under one’s own roof. The less getting down to business in bed, or wherever, the greater the work mania of those affected.
On the other hand, those who have sex with their partner twice a week are more relaxed in their working life. Employers might prick up their ears and squirm. The motto for my team: less sex, better performance. But those in the boardroom should also be aware that people can burn out and become depressed. And keeping busy is not the same as being productive. A person who is sexually active and more relaxed is by all means capable of success.
What goes around, comes around: lack of sex causes stress, which kills lust, which… The experts speak of a downward spiral which, in the long term, can mean death for a relationship. Indicators include sexual frustration and dissatisfaction, making it important for couples to keep a close eye on their sexual activity and satisfaction, as well as their personal fulfillment. It is particularly important that couples talk to one another without criticism. Silence through shame or even from misunderstood thoughtfulness is a mistake. And if two people alone can’t manage to talk about it and find long-term happiness, then couples’ counseling is recommended. Sweeping it under the carpet is a step towards the end of the relationship or other dramas. Back to the study. Sexually frustrated people often take on responsibilities that are difficult to give up again. Such as joining clubs, which only serves to distract from acute sexual frustration. As a result, one has less time for one’s own relationship, which, of course, has a negative effect on sexual satisfaction. The most vicious of vicious circles!
Ausgangstext - Deutsch Der Höhepunkt aber ist das eigentliche Hauptrennen, das zum heimlichen Ruhm der Khampa-Krieger und zur Ehre des Klosters Ganden Tubchen Chokhorling geritten wird. Am Morgen versammeln sich über einhundert Reiter vor den Mauern der Abtei. Die langen Haare sind mit roter Wolle um den Kopf geflochten. Manche von ihnen provozieren die chinesischen Autoritäten, indem sie trotz Verbots gut sichtbar das Bild des XIV. Dalai Lama bei sich tragen und mit ihren nervösen Pferden hautnah an den Ordnungshütern vorbeitänzeln. Erst auf sein Signal hin beginnt das Rennen. Drei Kilometer weit fordern sie von ihren Pferden höchste Leistung. Es kommt zu Massenstürzen. Die, die sich Sattel an Sattel in die vordere Reihe geschoben haben, werden vom Publikum, das die gesamte Rennstrecke säumt, frenetisch angefeuert. Der strahlende Sieger wird vom Lama höchstpersönlich beglückwünscht und erhält als Preis eines der begehrten chromblitzenden Motorräder, eine Art Harley Davidson chinesischer Bauart, die in jüngster Zeit den Nomaden das Pferd ersetzen.
Während des Festes haben die Mönche des Klosters Ganden Tubchen Chokhorling das Mandala aus Sand fertiggestellt. Es ist bunt und wunderschön geworden. Seinen Sinn, die Gottheit Yamantanka einzuladen und das Reiterfest zum Erfolg zu führen, hat sich erfüllt, denn einen Toten hat es dieses Jahr nicht gegeben.
Lama Tense Taji ist zuversichtlich, dass Kham einer Renaissance der buddhistischen Kultur entgegenblickt. Bisher wurden etwa 60 Prozent der Klöster Osttibets, wenn auch unter den strengen Augen der Chinesen, wieder aufgebaut. Der Abt hat einen klaren Geist: "Eine politische Unabhängigkeit Khams oder gar ganz Tibets halte ich für unwahrscheinlich." Der Mönch fühlt sich weniger der Politik als vielmehr der Religion verpflichtet: "Ich bin dazu berufen, die Lehre des Buddha an die Jugend weiterzugeben, solange ich lebe. "Die Klöster Khams", freut sich der Mann, "erwachen zu neuem Leben."

In the morning, more than a hundred riders, their long hair braided around their heads with red wool, gather before the abbey’s walls. Some provoke the Chinese authorities by openly carrying the image of the 14th Dalai Lama despite its being banned, and prancing with their skittish horses right past the officers’ noses. Lama Tense Taji rides in their midst and the riders swarm around him like bees around their queen, as if to ward off hostilities.
Only on his signal does the race start. For three kilometres, the riders push their steeds to the limit. There are massive pile-ups. Those who have thrust their way forward saddle-to-saddle to ride amongst the front-runners are cheered on wildly by the spectators lining the length of the track. The beaming winner is personally congratulated by the Lama. His prize? One of the coveted chrome-coruscating motorbikes, a kind of Chinese-style Harley Davidson, that have lately been replacing the horses of the nomads.
In the course of the festivities, the monks of Ganden Thubchen Choekhorling monastery have completed the sand mandala, gorgeous and richly coloured. And it has fulfilled its purpose of calling on the deity Yamantaka and making the gymkhana a success: no one has died this year.
Lama Tense Taji is confident that Kham is looking towards a renaissance in Buddhist culture. So far, some 60 percent of the monasteries in eastern Tibet have been rebuilt, albeit under the stern gaze of the Chinese. The abbot has no illusions: “Achieving political independence for Kham or the whole of Tibet seems to me unlikely.” His duties, he feels, lie more with religion than politics: “I have been called upon to pass on Buddha’s teachings to the young for as long as I am alive. Kham’s monasteries,” he says happily, “are starting to bloom again.”

As of 2024, my translation resumé includes screenplays – action movies, thrillers, Ostalgie (including translating "Good Bye, Lenin" for Miramax films) – and other film and TV-related translations (pitches, summaries, dialogue books), fiction, lyrics, marketing copy, ultra-cool blurbs, biographies, company brochures and game translations.
Apart from the internationally successful "Good Bye, Lenin," co-translated with my German wife in 1998, more recent translations include numerous feature-length scripts ("Der Clown," "Hai Alarm auf Mallorca," "Autobahn," and many others) and the "112" TV series (35 episodes) for action concept (www.actionconcept.com), Europe's leading production house for action films. Recent translations also include several TV-film outlines, treatments and summaries for Zeitsprung Entertainment (www.zeitsprung.de) and Grundy UFA as well as the book and additional material behind Knut Elstermann's "Gerdas Schweigen," also for Zeitsprung.
A writer myself, I completed a Master of Fine Arts in fiction writing at the University of Oregon in 1995 and in recent years have been focusing more on translating fiction, primarily for AmazonCrossing and Roberts & Maclay (the Tom Wagner series), while continuing to work in film and television.
I have now translated well in excess of three million words in the fiction field, starting with the seven-book "Berlin Gothic" series for AmazonCrossing in 2013. In recent years, I have completed three international bestsellers from Bernhard Hennen's "Elven" series —The Elven, Elven Winter, and Elven Queen — as well as Annis Bell's wonderful "Lady Jane" novel and historical novelist Petra Durst-Benning's her outstanding "Century Trilogy" and the equally well received The Seed Woman and TheFlower Shop. Most recently (2020 to 2023), I've translated ten books in the Tom Wagner series (think James Bond meets Indiana Jones) for authors Roberts and Maclay.
For me, translation is all about the story, far less about one-to-one word correspondence. What good is an English sentence if it's written by someone with a tin ear? Rhythm and mood matter at least as much as the actual words. I'll work closely with you to bring your story to an English-speaking audience!
