Będę bardzo zdziwiony, jeśli za jakiś czas za to przedstawienie jego twórczyni nie zbierze nagród, będących wyrazem uznania ze strony profesjonalnych gremiów. Pojęcie (termin) „czas” pojawia się w wielu różnych kontekstach, które tu podzielimy z grubsza na „kontekst natury” (świata fizycznego) i „kontekst kultury”.
Czas w fizyce został już dokładnie omówiony przez innych uczestników tego seminarium. Przypomnę tylko, że w fizyce mamy dwa zasadniczo różne podejścia do „własności” czasu, lub, lepiej, do własności procesów dziejących się w czasie (sparametryzowanych czasem) – podejście poprzez mechanikę i termodynamikę.
Czas w mechanice. Równania mechaniki (każdej) posiadają pewne symetrie, związane z obserwowanymi symetriami świata i – poprzez twierdzenie E. Noether – z podstawowymi prawami zachowania. Konsekwencją tego faktu jest brak rozróżnienia między przeszłością a przyszłością (symetria PT lub CPT): rozwiązania (trajektorie) „w przód” są równie dobre jak rozwiązania „w tył”. Ponadto prawa mechaniki są deterministyczne, stan układu (świata) w dowolnie wybranej chwili determinuje stany we wszystkich chwilach wcześniejszych i późniejszych – dynamika jest tutaj właściwie „statyczna”, to znaczy sugerująca „statyczny” obraz świata (w czasoprzestrzeni).
Czas w termodynamice. Obserwujemy istotną różnicę pomiędzy przeszłością i przyszłością (tzw. „strzałka czasu”). Formalnym wyrazem tero „braku symetrii” jest II Zasada Termodynamiki.
Trzeba tu wyraźnie powiedzieć, że i mechanika i termodynamika – każda we właściwym sobie zakresie – prawidłowo rekonstruują obserwowane zachowania się świata fizycznego. Trwające już ponad sto lat próby „wyprowadzenia” termodynamiki z praw mechaniki pokazały jedynie, że jest to możliwe tylko wtedy, gdy do równań (postulatów) mechaniki coś zostanie dodane: zasada przyczynowości, rachunek prawdopodobieństwa w postaci twierdzeń o dominujących w świecie tzw. „rozkładach normalnych” itp. Wszystkie takie dodatki mają charakter nowych postulatów, wychodzących poza twierdzenia mechaniki, i są równoważne w postulatem II Zasady Termodynamiki. (…)

The notion (or the term) “time” comes up in many different contexts, which will roughly be divided here into the context of nature (the physical world), and the context of culture .
The notion of time in physics has already been thoroughly discussed by other participants of this seminar. It is worth mentioning again, however, that there are two essentially different approaches to the “properties” of time, or rather the properties of the processes that occur within time (parameterised by time) – the approach through mechanics, and the approach through thermodynamics.
Time in mechanics. The equations of (each) mechanics are characterised by certain symmetries related to the observed symmetries of the world and – through E. Noether’s theorem – with basic laws of behaviour. The consequence of this fact is the lack of differentiation between the past and the present (PT or CPT symmetry): solutions (trajectories) “forth” are just as good as solutions “back”. Moreover, the rules of mechanics are deterministic. The state of the system (the world) at a randomly chosen moment determines all states in all previous and future moments – here, dynamics is basically “static”, that is, suggesting a “static” image of the world (in the space-time continuum) .
Time in thermodynamics . It is possible to observe a significant difference between the past and the future (the so-called arrow of time). The formal expression of this lack of symmetry is the second law of thermodynamics.
It must be clearly stated here that both mechanics and thermodynamics – each one within its respective scope –reconstruct the observed behaviour of the physical world correctly. The attempts, which have been going on for over one hundred years, to “pull” thermodynamics from the laws of mechanics have shown that it is only possible when something is added to mechanical equations (postulates): the principle of causality, probability calculus in the form of theorems about the universally dominating normal distributions etc. All such additions are regarded as new postulates that are beyond the theorems of mechanics and are equivalent to the postulate of the second law of thermodynamics. We must also remember that truth and liberty are inseparable in the grand work of creating a culture which serves the full development of individuals. Remembering Christ’s words “The truth shall make you free” (John 8:32) we want to build an evangelical culture which is free from illusion and utopian ideas which brought us so much suffering throughout the last century.

I hold an MA in Applied Linguistics from Warsaw University, where I specialised in conference interpreting (Polish A, English B, German C). My principal specialisation is conference interpreting, although I also have varied experience as a community/public service interpreter. I mainly work from English into Polish and vice versa.
I am currenty based in Warsaw, Poland. Between 2008 and 2012 I lived in London, where I gained varied experience as a community/public service interpreter.
My translation work both from English to Polish as well as Polish to English has included a series of academic articles, websites, leaflets, questionnaires, letters and software product descriptions.
I also have teaching experience as interpeter trainer and have wored at London Metropolitan University and Westminster University, where I taught consecutive and public service interpreting (English < > Polish). I now teach consecutive interpreting skills and translation at Warsaw University.
