I was born in Mexico City and I have studied and lived in Mexico, the US, Holland, Scotland, and Germany.
I have been doing work related to the field of English˃Spanish translation since 1989. I have translated mostly social sciences (general), literary, humanities, and commercial texts. In the early stages of my career, I also worked regularly as a consecutive and escort interpreter (Commercial Section of the American Embassy, NGO´s conferences and International Cultural Festivals in Mexico City). From 1991 to 2010 I worked as an English teacher (EFL) and as Spanish teacher in the US, Scotland and Mexico, a job I keep doing with some hours of private tuition.
Between 1995 and 2009, I devoted most of my time to my MPhil (Edinburgh) and PhD (Mexico) degrees in Comparative Literature and to teaching. Both activities were linked to translation since translation theory and translation history were key components of my degree theses. Furthermore, a significant part of my teaching since 2001 has been directly related to translation theory and practice.
Since 2002 and 2006, I have included in my translation career my other pair languages (Fre˃Spa and Deu˃Spa).
Given my academic background, I have added in the past 7 years proofreading and copyediting of texts in Spanish to my professional practice.
As a translator and proofreader, I am concerned with satisfying my clients with high quality, efficiency, and accuracy.
Some of the companies and organizations I have translated or done reading and proofreading for include:
Foreign Press Office of the Presidency of Mexico, US Trade Center and Commercial Section of the American Embassy in Mexico, Software AG, National Music School at the UNAM (academic papers), Modern Languages Department at the UNAM (academic papers), Health Ministry of Mexico (public health documents, specially related to seafood safety), International Association for the History of Rhetoric (Mexican Section), and the Arts & Literature, Humanities and Children´s Books sections of the Fondo de Cultura Económica (major publishing house in Latin America).
Published books I have translated include:
