Source text - English At the times indicated on the table, the medical tests and procedures you/ your child will be asked to undergo include:
• A medical history, including questions about your/ your child’s health, current medications, and any allergies, during which you/ your child will be asked questions about your/ your child’s general health, any problems you/ your child might be having, and any additional medications you/ your child may be taking, including vitamins and herbal medications.
• A physical examination, during which your/ your child’s clinician will examine your/ your child’s bodily systems (respiratory, circulatory, digestive, etc.) to check for any problems you/ your child may be having.
• A neurologic examination, which is a test of reflexes, muscle strength, eye and mouth movement, coordination and alertness that may provide more information about your/ your child’s disease.
• Vital Signs (pulse, respiratory rate, blood pressure, temperature)
• Blood tests, in which different aspects of your/ your child’s blood will be measured, including electrolytes, different types of cells, glucose, and hormones. These tests will ensure your/ your child’s body is functioning correctly and will ensure it is safe to continue treatment. When glucose needs to be measured, you/ your child will be required to fast (not eat or drink anything except water) for a set period of time to be determined by your/ your child’s doctor.
• A pregnancy test for females of childbearing potential.
• Urine test, through which urine will be monitored for the presence of proteins, which, if present, can indicate kidney damage.
• Bone Imaging to assess the overall health of your/ your child’s bones. Imaging will include X- rays of your/ your child’s hands, chest, spine, and pelvis. In addition, DXA and pQCT scanning (two bone imaging tests) will be done. These types of imaging will not only help your/ your child’s doctor detect any changes in the density and strength of your/ your child’s bones, but also allow him or her to determine your/ your child’s body composition.
• Physical and Occupational Therapy Exam to assess your/ your child’s joint mobility, muscle strength and control, as well as your/ your child’s ability to carry out activities of daily living.
• Nutrition Assessment, in which you/ your child will record for 5-7 days all the foods and liquids you/ your child eat and drink. This record will be reviewed by a nutritionist to determine your/ your child’s nutritional intake.
• An ECG, a test that monitors for any abnormalities in your/ your child’s heart’s electrical function.
• Blood Vessel Tests, which include an ultrasound (imaging) of your/ your child’s carotid (neck) artery and a measurement of your/ your child’s brachial (upper arm) artery. In addition, an Ankle Brachial Index will be determined, during which the blood pressure in your/ your child’s upper arm will be compared to that in your/ your child’s ankle. All of these tests will be done to see if you/your child has any vascular (blood vessel) irregularities.
• Echocardiogram, during which focused transthoracic echo imaging (similar to ultrasound) of the heart will be used to obtain basic cardiac data such as characteristics of cardiac valves, heart function and mass. Importantly, we will incorporate gel offsets to significantly increase your/your child’s comfort with the procedure.
• Brain MRI, which looks at the structure of the brain and its blood vessels. The test is done in a large tube and is noisy. You/your child will be wearing headphones to block the loud sounds.
• Collection of Biology Samples. Blood, urine, and serum (a component of blood) will be collected and analyzed for certain elements that could allow researchers to learn more about progeria. These samples may not all be used right away, and any remaining samples will be stored for use in the future. However, only certain researchers will have access to them and to any identifying information that may be on them.
Translation - Portuguese Nos momentos indicados no quadro, os testes e os procedimentos médicos que serão solicitados a você/sua criança incluem:
• História pregressa, durante o qual serão feitas perguntas acerca da sua saúde/a da sua criança, dos medicamentos actuais e de eventuais alergias e perguntas gerais acerca da sua saúde/a da sua criança, dos problemas que possa ter e dos medicamentos adicionais que você/sua criança possa estar a tomar, incluindo vitaminas e medicamentos à base de plantas.
• Exame físico, durante o qual o seu médico/ou o da sua criança irá examinar os seus sistemas orgânicos (respiratório, circulatório, digestivo, etc.) para verificar se você/sua criança tem algum problema.
• Exame neurológico, que consiste num teste de reflexos, força muscular, movimentos dos olhos e da boca, coordenação e estado de alerta, que poderá fornecer mais dados sobre a sua doença/a da sua criança
• Sinais vitais (pulsação, frequência respiratória, tensão arterial e temperatura)
• Análises de sangue, através das quais serão medidos vários parâmetros do seu sangue/a da sua criança, incluindo electrólitos, diferentes tipos de células, glicose e hormonas. Estes testes irão assegurar que o seu corpo/o da sua criança está a funcionar correctamente, do ponto de vista fisiológico, e darão garantias de que é seguro continuar o tratamento. Quanto for necessário medir o teor de glicose, terá de estar em jejum (sem comer ou beber, com excepção de água) durante um período de tempo estipulado pelo seu médico/a da sua criança.
• Teste de gravidez, no caso de mulheres em idade fértil.
• Análise de urina, em que será analisada a presença de proteínas, as quais, caso estejam presentes, podem ser uma indicação de lesões renais.
• Exames imagiológicos ósseos, para avaliar a saúde global dos seus ossos/os da sua criança. Estes exames incluirão radiografias das suas mãos, do tórax, da coluna vertebral e da pélvis. Além disso, serão feitos exames, DEXA e TCQp (dois exames imagiológicos). Estes tipos de exames imagiológicos ajudarão não só o seu médico ou o da sua criança a detectar quaisquer alterações na densidade e na resistência dos ossos, como também lhe permitirão determinar a sua/da sua criança composição corporal.
• Exame de terapia física e ocupacional, para avaliar a sua mobilidade articular/a da sua criança, a força muscular e o respectivo controlo, bem como a sua capacidade ou a da sua criança de realizar actividades rotineiras.
• Avaliação nutricional, para a qual, você/sua criança terá de registar durante 5 a 7 dias todos os alimentos e bebidas que você/sua criança ingere. Este registo será consultado pelo nutricionista para determinar o seu aporte nutricional, ou o da sua criança.
• ECG para monitorizar eventuais anomalias do funcionamento do seu coração ou o da sua criança do ponto da vista da atividade elétrica cardíaca.
• Testes aos vasos sanguíneos, que incluem a ecografia da artéria carótida (pescoço) ou a da sua criança (visualização) e medição da sua artéria branquial ou a da sua criança (na parte superior do braço). Além disso, será determinado um índice tornozelo-braquial no qual são comparadas a tensão sanguínea da região superior do seu braço ou a da sua criança, e a tensão no tornozelo. Todos estes testes serão feitos para verificar se existem irregularidades vasculares (vasos sanguíneos).
• Ecocardiograma transtorácico, que permitirá obter imagens de coração graças ao fato de os ultrassons emitidos pelo equipamento utilizado serem refletidos de forma diferente pelas várias estruturas cardíacas. O ecocardiograma utiliza-se para estudar as válvulas cardíacas e alterações cardíacas morfológicas e funcionais. De destacar também o uso de electrodos com gel sólido proporcionando maior conforto durante o exame.
• RM cerebral, pela qual se observa a estrutura do cérebro e respectivos vasos sanguíneos. O exame é realizado num tubo muito grande e é ruidoso. Você/a sua criança usarão auriculares para diminuir os sons mais altos.
• Colheita de amostras biológicas. Serão colhidas amostras de sangue, de urina e de soro (um componente do sangue), nas quais serão depois analisados determinados elementos que permitem aos investigadores saber mais sobre a progeria. Estas amostras podem não ser usadas de imediato; qualquer amostra restante será guardada para utilização futura. Contudo, apenas alguns investigadores terão acesso a estas amostras e a informações de identificação que possam conter.

I work as a translator and interpreter in the Czech Republic and in Brazil (São Paulo), where I live for part of the year. My qualifications include a degree in translation and conference interpreting (master's) for French and Czech from Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague, the leading institution in the country for translator and interpreter training.
I studied both in France (at Institut Supérieur d'Interprétation et de Traduction, which is a private institution of higher education associated with the Catholic Institute of Paris (Institut Catholique de Paris) and menber of the CIUTI (Conférence Internationale des Instituts Universitaires de Traducteurs et d´Interprétes), and in Brazil, at the University of São Paulo, which is the largest and the most prestigious educational institution in Brazil, and one of the most prestigious universities in the world.
I was also awarded a traineeship organised by the European Parliament Directorate for translation in Luxembourg.
