Unless you consider my sunny terrace as outdoors, I do occasionally take my work there but I work best indoors at my desk surrounded by my dictionaries and reference books, even if I haven’t opened some of them for a long time… | | | EvaVer (X) Local time: 16:15 Czech to French + ... I worked outdoors was on a holiday in Greece, and it was only because there was no confortable working space in our room, while tables at the poolside bar were the right height (and there was even an electrical socket). I think my output was normal - on one hand, there were various relatives (it was a family gathering) passing and talking to me; on the other hand, in full sight of everyone, there was less of my usual procrastination. I only work outside in the summer evenings, when it heats up too much indoors and it's cooler outside on the terrace. I have a full PC workstation out there that I can set up in 5 minutes, so I can be more productive there than sitting indoors sweating despite the fan blowing at me. The only drawback is that insects are attracted to the light from the screen, so I usually set up small lamps nearby to distract them.

I never work outdoors. Too many distractions. | | | I never work outdoors | Oct 9, 2018 |
and, except in force majeure events, I never work anywhere else than in front of my bulky desktop computer (leaving aside reading/responding to email on my phone when clients expect me to be working, one has to keep up with progress). As much as I can see the advantage of being able to work "wherever" for those who feel like it, I certainly don't want to be a "mobile" worker, and I have gladly let my laptop become obsolete and turn into a static, unresponsive, ugly plastic brick rea... I, although very occasionally, work at a nearby public park. I sit at a picnic table that faces a river that runs through a wooded area, where some of the fallen trees and their trunks crisscross over the river's waters, with the sun filtering through. I like to work there on fall mornings because the cool air keeps me alert and makes me very productive, and because of the colorful fall foliage. | | | Mario Freitas Brazil Local time: 11:15 Member (2014) English to Portuguese + ... I use a desktop, and I have all my equipment on my desk at home. The only exception is when I'm traveling, and I have to use the laptop. Productivity falls a million if you're working on a laptop without an external mouse/keyboard/screen. Ergonomy goes down the tubes. So, desktop at home = 100% concentration and productivity. Laptop outdoors = loss in productivity and concentration, and lots of distraction factors. Anyway, I still plan on living in a house where I can go outside and ... Laptop outdoors = loss in productivity and concentration, and lots of distraction factors. Anyway, I still plan on living in a house where I can go outside and work in the garden or by the pool. If I'm not in a hurry, it's ok to lose in productivity and concentration to work in a much healthier and more pleasant environment, no doubt about that. ▲ Collapse

...much as I'd like to in the summer, because my garden is really beautiful. But I just can't see a thing on my screen. Those who work outdoors, how do you manage that? Are there screens that are OK out in the sunshine? | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: Do you tend to get less done when you work outdoors?
