French term

Plots reconstitués

French to English Tech/Engineering Forestry / Wood / Timber
Hello

I've done the research and I know what the definition is:

Un plot est constitué de l'ensemble des plateaux obtenus par le sciage.....

there are also loads of pictures on this such as

http://images.ihb.de/p-17890000-17880529-1/Plots-reconstitué...

http://images.fordaq.com/p-17900000-17896348-1/Plots-reconst...

but I have not been able to find a translation for this

The further problem is that if I type 'plot' + wood and try to find if I can see this in English, the results get confusing as I get hits for 'plot' as in 'plot of land' and 'wood' as in forest.

So the hits are there, but not the one I'm looking for.

What is

"un plot" as in

***Un plot*** est constitué de l'ensemble des plateaux obtenus par le sciage.....?

thanks

Thanks everyone I did unusually close without grading as I used 'batches' but thanks anyway.
Someone sent me a reference from a glossary where the French term 'boule' is used but is it so obscure and rare on Internet that i gave it a miss too.
Thanks again to all

Batches Thanks everyone

The idea in French seems to be that the wood on a plot of land is reconstituted (put back togehter) after sawing.

The closest I can get now is 'batches' where the type and colour of the wood is checked for consistency.

'Bales' is more for straw and 'packs' can be really small in DIY stores

So I have chosen 'batches' but feel that I owe you an explanation

Regards

PS can I give myself 4 points? lol

It is often desirable to leave sawn timber unedged and stacked in log form ('en boule')

Boule
A stack of timber formed from a log that is sawn longitudinally by a series of successive parallel cuts with the resultant waney-edged pieces then assembled to recreate the original form of the log.

bale

Looking at the pictures, that's what I'd call them.

Packs

'Timber packs' gets a reasonable number of Ghits and the photos show much the same type of bundle.
http://www.iwood.co.uk/packs/32/oak-european/

"All sections are available in full sized imported packs (about 4m3) or in smaller, loose metre runs as required. " quote from http://www.snowstimber.com/joinery-quality-softwood/

"Visitors to the iWood website are now able to buy bundles of pre-cut timber - known as 'Packs' - available in the leading species such as European Oak, American Cherry, Sycamore and European Beech."

One New Zealand website referred to timber packets but that term seems to be limited to that country.

Bundles

We used to call them bundles at the sawmill I worked in. They are the flat sawn (i.e. plain sawn, as opposed to quarter sawn or rift sawn) boards (flitches) from a log, stacked in the order they were positioned in the log before sawing, with spacers between them to allow drying, and bundled with steel ties.

packs of planks reassembled into their original log form

can't find anything shorter

constructing the log model. - The central axis of each log in
the sample is located by marking the center of both ends of the log
(fig. I) Boards are then sawed parallel to the Y axis. Using the central
axis as a reference, each board surface is identified by the Z-axis location
it held before sawing. Similarly, the board width is identified by Y-axis
values and the board length by X-axis values.
Defects in each board are grouped into classes that depend upon the
products being considered. Each class includes those defects that would
cause rejection of the piece for a particular use. For examp!e, if the yield
of parts for pallets, flooring, or dimension stock is to be determined, then
three classes of defects can be used. When the yield of pallet parts is being
computed, program DEFECT will ignore the flooring and dimension
classes of defects.
Program DEFECT provides for reassembly of the boards into their
original log form.
Because board outline and defect location have been
converted to numerical data, they are "visible" to the computer; therefore,
the reassembled log can be considered a "glass log."
