English term

mean specific abrasion resistance

English to Japanese Tech/Engineering Metallurgy / Casting
This term appears in general specification for anodic oxidation coating on aluminum - the whole sentence is just "For tests in accordance with ISO 8251:-, Clause 6, the customer shall specify the mean specific abrasion resistance or the relative mean specific abrasion resistance". It appears in a paragraph on, yes, abrasion resistance testing.

I can't find a Japanese translation for it - "specific abrasion" seems to follow the pattern of specific gravity, specific absorption rate and so on by just adding 比, so we get 比磨耗量, but if I try to follow that path and create a monster, namely 平均比耐磨耗性, I can't find it anywhere outside of my head, so I'm weary of using it in the translation I'm working on. Has anyone encountered this term before and can offer some help? It would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

平均比摩耗量

Hi Krzysztof,

I'm away and don't have any reference books with me to prove, but in general the abrasion resistance (耐摩耗性) is expressed in terms of volume loss (wear) = 摩耗量. Therefore, I believe that in this case 平均比摩耗量 is appropriate.

What 比摩耗量 means is expressed here:
